We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jesslyn McCutcheon. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jesslyn below.
Jesslyn, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I love this question. It may have taken me nearly two decades to find my purpose, but when I did–the passion could not be stopped. I found my purpose after years of struggling living with bipolar 1 disorder–an often misunderstood illness that I wanted nothing to do with. First, I had to learn to except the illness. Secondly, I had to learn to believe that I was capable of doing the calling that God had placed on my heart–helping other woman and their caretakers who live with bipolar disorder.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Jesslyn McCutcheon is the founder of Fighting Goliath for Mental Illness, a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit ministry dedicated to supporting women who live with bipolar disorder. Since being diagnosed with bipolar I disorder for over two decades, she is passionate about helping others overcome the hopelessness this illness can bring. She empowers women to lead more fulfilling lives through resources, shared experiences, and the Word of God. Jesslyn is affiliated with the American Association of Christian Counseling (AACC) and NAMI NW Piedmont (National Alliance for Mental Illness). She holds certifications in Adult Mental Health First Aid and Mental Health Coaching and is a certified National Helpline Specialist with NAMI. Jesslyn, her husband, and three girls live in NC.
Jesslyn published her first book Fighting Goliath: Slaying the Giant of Bipolar Disorder on June 22, 2025. It is available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Hope*Books, and other book retailers.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
We all have a story to tell that is uniquely ours that can not be taken by anyone else.
God gave each one of us a purpose from before we were formed in our mother’s womb. It is His desire for us to trust Him to find that gift created for each of us to discover.
Don’t ever quit, learn from your mistakes. If you keep getting back up, still have breath in your lungs, you are still in the fight. The battle has already been won—lay it all down at the feet of Jesus and in His perfect timing you will see how He is more than capable of turning your grave into a garden.
Advice: Life is not a race. Move at your own speed, stay the course, and don’t turn back. You will never move forward if you are hanging onto your past. Repent, stop beating yourself up, forgive yourself and walk with Jesus.

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
The Purpose Driven Life: What On Earth Am I Here For: by Rick Warren
Golden nuggets:
1. Living for God’s glory is the greatest achievement we can ever accomplish in our lives.
2. A very important test is how you act when you can’t feel God’s presence in your life.
3. You may choose your career, your spouse, your hobbies, and many parts of your life, but you don’t get to choose your purpose.
