Meet Jesus Luviano

We were lucky to catch up with Jesus Luviano recently and have shared our conversation below.

Jesus, so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?

Being the only one in the room that looked like me taught me to see my difference as an advantage, not a barrier. My background in competitive dance, classical ballet, and large-scale production gave me a perspective no one else had. I learned to be effective by letting my unique experiences fuel my creativity, my discipline, and my leadership, turning what set me apart into the reason I succeed.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I’m a former pre-professional dancer and choreographer who has transitioned into creative direction and large-scale production. My career began in classical ballet and contemporary dance, and over time, I’ve shifted my focus to directing runway shows, live performances, and multimedia events. What excites me most about my work is the opportunity to blend my dance background with the dynamic energy of fashion and live production, creating immersive, narrative-driven experiences that engage audiences on a deeper level.

Whether it’s stepping into a small event or jumping into large-scale productions, I love being able to support and elevate projects wherever I see an opportunity to make an impact. For me, every production is a chance to collaborate, innovate, and push boundaries. I’ve had the privilege of working on projects like Rock the Runway, collaborating with Metropolitan Fashion Week, Art Hearts Fashion, and major entertainment brands. Recently, I had the pleasure of supporting the FCI Fashion School Student and Graduate Runway in Los Angeles, where I was able to jump in last-minute and contribute to the production, helping to showcase the incredible talent of the students and emerging fashion designers.

Currently, I’m focused on developing new, innovative productions that continue to blur the lines between live performance, fashion, and artistic design. I’m excited about the future and the chance to keep creating experiences that inspire and connect audiences, regardless of the size or scale of the project.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Reflecting on my journey, three key qualities have been instrumental: creative vision, resilience, and interdisciplinary collaboration. My ability to envision groundbreaking, cross-genre projects—like blending dance with fashion and multimedia—has been a driving force behind my work. Resilience, rooted in my classical training, allowed me to thrive despite the inevitable challenges and transitions in my career. Finally, interdisciplinary collaboration has been a cornerstone of my success, enabling me to work seamlessly with designers, artists, and producers across diverse fields to create truly dynamic productions.

For those just starting out, my advice is simple but critical: don’t limit your potential by sticking to one lane. Cultivate a broad skill set, remain adaptable, and most importantly, surround yourself with people who inspire and challenge you. The most powerful projects come from diverse minds working together toward a shared vision.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?

Over the past 12 months, my biggest area of growth has been fully embracing the idea that there’s no such thing as a perfect plan. In creative production, things rarely go exactly as imagined, and learning to let go of rigid expectations has allowed me to pivot, adapt, and continuously reinvent my work. This mindset has helped me stay innovative, responsive, and open to unexpected opportunities—turning challenges into creative breakthroughs.
