We were lucky to catch up with Jett Shea recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jett, appreciate you sitting with us today. Maybe we can start with a topic that we care deeply about because it’s something we’ve found really sets folks apart and can make all the difference in whether someone reaches their goals. Self discipline seems to have an outsized impact on how someone’s life plays out and so we’d love to hear about how you developed yours?
This question is so fitting given the fact that my new company is centered around living a health-based lifestyle that is achieved through self-discipline. Honestly, one of my biggest motivators as I begin to develop my new business is my life long journey with personal self accountability, or in other words, discipline. If I am being completely transparent, my life has been a roller coaster, which affected the way my thoughts were processed. With that being said, my mind has gone through quite the exercise in pursuit of developing a strong mentality. I struggled immensely with a weak mind growing up. Seriously, I believe my own thoughts have destroyed many positive life opportunities that were extended to me, just because I could not get out of my own head. One day, I was thinking about all the bizarre events that have occurred in my life, but I was also pondering all the success I could have as an individual. In that moment, I realized I needed to make a change and began to develop a vast amount of self-discipline to ultimately create the strong mind I was lacking. During this time, I was a high school athlete, so I worked to create this kind of accountability through my sport. My first initiative to develop a new mind was by waking up at 4:40am before school to go become a better athlete. In order to do this, I was required to go to bed early the night before, which took self-discipline for me to accomplish. I am a firm believer in “the way you do anything, is the way you do everything.” Through consistently waking up early to go improve myself, the habits that came along with that action trickled into all aspects of my life. My grades, skill within the sport, amongst other things, all improved. To sum this all up, this was step 1 for me to create a self-disciplined life. Of course, there were many other things I did to change my habits of a weak mind, but I believe being an early riser was one of the most beneficial things I could have done. Self-discipline is by far one of the most important aspects of humans life when it comes to separating themselves from the person they were yesterday.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am currently in the process of creating a brand new company called “Uncommonomics.” The basis of the company is to lead individuals to a health-based lifestyle that corresponds with the “economics of being uncommon.” The definition of economics is, “the branch of knowledge concerned with the production, consumption, and transfer of wealth.” It is interesting, because this definition goes incredibly well with the foundation of health. The saying, “health is wealth” has become a common phrase in recent years. With that being said, “the production of wealth” goes hand in hand with fitness and working out to produce a new body in the gym. Next, the “consumption of wealth” describes the foods that we consume into our bodies each day. Finally, the “transfer of wealth” is regarding the information that we are constantly transferring into our minds, which impacts a person’s mental health. Within many age groups, but specifically Generation Z, these three facets of life have become uncommon. I understand this to be true, because I am apart of this generation. This is the backstory behind the name Uncommonomics.
The company is working to shift a generation of people from common to uncommon. Through social media and our soon-to-be website, we are releasing posts, blogs and documentaries with free information on how to change your life to one that is health-based. Uncommonomics is bigger than just a business, it is a movement. I am seeking genuine connections with people, because I want to see lives change. Fitness, nutrition and mindset are all the innerworkings of a human being. By correcting poor habits and transitioning them into healthy actions, a life would see immense improvement.
As a follower of Christ, I will be implementing the Lord into all aspects of the brand, especially within the mindset portion. A mind that is centered on God is one that is healthy. I strongly desire a community of people that are seeking self-improvement that is driven by Christ. By the grace of God, we will accomplish that if it is within His plan for my life and company!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
In my journey, these are the three main qualities I would deem are the most important: faithful, people-focused (not self-focused) and consistent.
When it comes to being faithful, it comes down to knowing God has a plan that is greater than yours and all will be well with Him in control. By walking with the Lord, you begin to see people differently. I really believe that being people focused is the way an individual can leave the largest impact on someone’s life. It’s simple, by putting others above yourself, there is more room for a life to be changed. Finally, consistency truly is key. I had a business prior to my new one and I achieved the most success with it when my efforts were the most consistent. All three of these qualities have benefited me beyond entrepreneurship. I have seen my own life change through relationships with others, school, sports and everything else in between. Faith, others and consistency is the way to operate through life.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I would love to collaborate with influencers and brands that are within the health and wellness industry. (Or people that are willing to share their story with the three major facets of health.) Over time, I am looking to move into a podcast where there will be more interviews and conversation-based content. Although, I am still looking to partner with individuals and companies for different social media collaborations.
