Meet Jeyson Herrera

We were lucky to catch up with Jeyson Herrera recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Jeyson, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

I don’t think I found my purpose in a single moment, I’ve been growing into it, one failure, one prayer, and one race at a time. I come from a place where just getting to the track was already a miracle. I didn’t have sponsors, or resources — sometimes not even bus fare. But I had something stronger: a dream that didn’t die, and faith that God could do what I couldn’t.

I remember praying before races, before flights, even before asking someone for help:
“Señor, si Tú estás en esto, ábreme el camino.” And He did. Not always how I expected but always right on time.

Mark 9:23 says:
“Everything is possible for the one who believes.”
That verse became part of my identity. Because there were moments in my life when all I had was belief. I knocked on doors that didn’t open. I made mistakes. I trusted the wrong people. I doubted myself. But that faith, that belief is the one that keeps me going.

And now? Look at me here! A Colombian random low-mid class guy In the U.S living the dream, racing, building a future not just for me, but for my family. Still chasing the same dream that once felt so far away. Still learning, failing sometimes, growing always. Trusting that God is the artist behind this broken jar. I haven’t “arrived.”, I’’m still working on becoming a better human being.

My purpose isn’t just about racing anymore. It’s about living with intention. Being a light for others who come from nothing and still dare to believe. Showing that you can chase the impossible without losing who you are. And giving glory to God through every step.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I’m living what used to be just a dream, racing professionally in the U.S. and proudly representing MottazSport, a team that believes in my potential and shares my passion for doing things the right way. Every time I get on track, I carry with me the fire of someone who started with nothing but a dream and faith. I race in the T4 Series, a global platform that levels the field and puts talent first. What makes it special for me is that it opens real doors for drivers who never had them and this is something I deeply connect with.

Behind me is Kart Rising, a project that supports what we’re building with MottazSport by helping expand the T4 vision across the U.S. It’s more than karts, it’s about giving opportunities to those who’ve been overlooked, especially in Latino communities.

The mission is clear: become World Champions at the T4 Nations Cup 2025. That’s the goal we’re chasing, lap by lap, race by race. But more than trophies, I’m racing with purpose: to grow, to inspire, and to show that faith and grit can take you further than anyone expects.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back, I’d say the three most impactful qualities in my journey have been resilience, humility, and faith.

Resilience, because this path is full of setbacks, closed doors, tight budgets, and people who doubt you. I had to keep going when I had nothing: no sponsors, no equipment, no safety net. If you’re just starting out, my advice is this: train your mind and your spirit to endure. The breakthrough often comes right after the part where you feel like giving up.

Humility, because ego is one of the biggest obstacles and it’s still a fight I’m working on today. I’ve had to remind myself that serving, learning, and staying teachable are more powerful than showing off. I’ve cleaned tires, turned wrenches, and watched others win races I thought I deserved. But those moments taught me more than any trophy could. My advice: stay grounded, stay hungry, and never think you’re above the basics.

And faith, not just in God, but in the unseen. I’ve had to believe in doors before they opened, in results before they came. I’ve walked into places where no one knew me, but I knew Who I carried inside. For anyone starting out: trust the process, trust the calling, and don’t lose your heart in the waiting. Mark 9:23 — “Everything is possible for the one who believes.” That’s not just a verse — it’s my engine.

At the end of the day, your talent gets you noticed but your character is what keeps you in the race.

What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?

In the past year, my biggest growth has been learning to put more of myself—my reality, fears, and even blind steps—on God’s Word. I’ve made tough decisions not by logic but by faith.

Also, thinking as a husband and family man alongside my wife has changed everything. We’re making choices for our future together, not just for racing. I’m still learning, still trusting the process, and walking step by step—even when I can’t see the full path.
