Meet Jg Collects

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jg Collects. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Jg, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?

Yes, certainly, I got my resilience from various aspects of my life, starting with my father. I watched him overcome a medical ill spouse and a nasty divorce. He was faced with tough decisions like having my grandma raise me and my brother for the first half of our lives. He also had to deal with a problematic son who was in and out of jail. The other part of my resilience came from my environment growing up in an area where, as kids, we were forced to grow up quickly.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m a Father , Podcaster /street interviewer. I interview voice actors, artists, cosplayers, musicians, business owners, and streamers in the gaming and anime community. What’s special about this is being able to showcase and connect with so many talented people who get overlooked by society because they are not the social norms that people are accustomed to. As for new events, I’m excited to be doing media for one of the biggest anime conventions in the South, MomoCon.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

My advice to anybody starting off in this is to have confidence in yourself and believe in what you’re doing. It might sound cliche, but it’s very vital if you want to succeed. The second thing I would say is to make sure you know how to communicate and network. If you’re not sure about how to communicate effectively in an interview, I suggest watching a lot of popular podcasts. Even if you don’t agree with some of the things they’re saying, you can easily learn from them, watch them, incorporate some things, and develop your own style. Lastly, and I feel like this is underrated and not talked about enough, being punctual goes a very long way. Make sure you’re early to whatever event or interview you are attending to show the people that you are serious about this.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?

I have a lot of people who have helped me out in getting me to where I am at and dealing with some of my BS. So I want to thank, first and foremost, my daughter my Janelle, my brother Steven, , my Aunt Maxine my brother Rizzo, Leemon, my sister Brittany, and my friends that became family to me. Thank you Katerra, Nyomi, Maki, Kise, Usagi, Crazy8thegreat, , Raizart and animeinkart, .Just to name a few without y’all I wouldn’t have made it this far
