We were lucky to catch up with Jhazzy Wolf recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jhazzy, great to have you with us today and excited to have you share your wisdom with our readers. Over the years, after speaking with countless do-ers, makers, builders, entrepreneurs, artists and more we’ve noticed that the ability to take risks is central to almost all stories of triumph and so we’re really interested in hearing about your journey with risk and how you developed your risk-taking ability.
I learned to take risks because I’ve always loved adventure and doing things that make life exciting. When I was a kid, I enjoyed living on the edge, and as I got older, that love for taking risks turned into a way to chase my dreams. I realized that if I wanted to get where I really wanted to be, I had to be willing to step into the unknown and take some chances. So, taking risks became not just about having fun but also about making my dreams come true. It’s like stepping out of my comfort zone and discovering new opportunities that help me reach where I want to go.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’m super excited to talk about what goes down at Wolf Wednesdays, where I wear the hat of both a business owner and a dream-chaser in the music industry. We are a movement dedicated to nurturing performance skills & celebrating local talent. Our supportive atmosphere encourages collaboration and personal growth.
Over the past three years, my mission has been to not only create a stage for local artists to shine but also to establish a hub where music lovers can discover the hidden talent within our city. Wolf Wednesdays is more than an event; it’s a vibrant community where creativity thrives, and artists find a platform to showcase their talents.
So aside from opening a door to other artists, I’m also perusing my own music. This year I plan on dropping my first EP called “Colofornia”. I also have music on all streaming platforms, & you can occasionally hear my song “2023” or “Beautiful Nightmare” on 104.7 the drop.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Thinking on my journey, three things stand out as the most impactful. Firstly, resilience has been a game-changer for me. The ability to bounce back from setbacks and keep pushing forward is key, especially in the unpredictable world of the entertainment industry.
Secondly, adaptability has also played a huge role. Things change a lot, so being able to switch it up, try new things, and go with the flow is always good. Being flexible has helped me handle challenges and grab unexpected opportunities.
Thirdly, a deep understanding of the local music scene has been super important. Knowing the pulse of the community, understanding what resonates with the audience, and staying connected with the local scene has been key in curating events that truly strike a chord.
For those starting their journey, my advice is to cultivate resilience – expect challenges, but see them as opportunities to learn and grow. Embrace adaptability, be open to change and willing to evolve with the industry. Lastly, invest time in understanding your community and industry because knowing your audience and staying connected will set you apart. It’s can be a tough journey, but enjoy the process and keep pushing forward.
What would you advise – going all in on your strengths or investing on areas where you aren’t as strong to be more well-rounded?
I think it’s good to be good at what we’re already good at (our strengths) but also to learn some new stuff (be more well-rounded). You need to have a strong base with things you are already good at, and then add more skills to it.
In my music and entertainment world, being really good at organizing events and knowing what people like has been super important. But, I also realized that knowing more about things like online promotion could make things even better.
For example, there was a time when my events needed more online promotion. So, I learned about digital marketing, even though it wasn’t my strong suit at first. But guess what? It made a big difference and more people started showing up and then i learned to love it!
So, it’s like having your strong points and adding a few more skills to make everything even better. It helps you handle different situations and opportunities that come your way in the entertainment world.
