We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jill Ryan McMeekin. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jill Ryan below.
Jill Ryan, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?
I love to say YES and help out as much as possible, but I need to remember to keep my schedule light. When my weekly calendar feels overwhelming (read: too many colored blocks on my Google calendar!), my creativity drops. I need room to be free, to let ideas flow to me, to journal, and to capture new concepts. In addition to keeping my obligations minimal, I also need my physical space to be clean and clutter-free. The less stuff around me, the more creative I feel!
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I create cleaning and organizing content on social media and YouTube. It’s my mission to motivate people to create systems in their homes so they can have more time and space to focus on what brings them joy! In the early years of my business (2016-2018), I was physically organizing people’s homes and small businesses. Then, in 2018, I started an Instagram account because I wanted to have a broader reach. I have learned SO much about the world of content creation, who I am as a business owner, and what it takes to move the needle. I am focused on delivering 1 YouTube video per week, and I am proud to say this is now a consistent habit in my life. I never thought I would say I am a video creator, but here I am! And enjoying every step of the journey.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three most impactful qualities in my journey were (and still are!): consistency, brevity, and authenticity. For those of who are early on in your journey, the most important thing is to keep showing up. Even if you have a bad week/month/year, just get back up. You are the only one who is going to care the most about your business. Keep showing up for yourself, and it will pay off!
What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
My biggest area of growth in the past 12 months has been consistency. I posted my first “Clean With Me” YouTube video on July 30, 2022, and I have delivered 1 video a week 75% of the time. That is HUGE progress for me. I decided that creating videos for YouTube was the biggest priority in my business right now, and I am so proud of my growth in deciding to show up and do what I said I was going to do: post 1 video per week for a year.
