We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jill Sitnick. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jill below.
Jill, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
While I have always been an educator at heart, one of the most defining moments in my life was when, after easing out of my enhanced state from an MDMA therapeutic journey to heal PTSD, I sat up and simply told my doctors I wanted to write a book about the therapy to help explain it to others.
It was that simple.
I had agreed to MDMA therapy for PTSD, even with all of the stereotypes and preconceived notions that came with the word psychedelics. Having had such a phenomenal healing experience over the course of a year with three therapeutic journeys, I felt a responsibility to share my experience so others could understand how the therapy worked.
Since then, I have written a memoir, an intentions-setting workbook, and created an educational YouTube channel in an effort to provide the content to others that I wish had been around when I was going through my therapy.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
As an advocate and content creator focused on MDMA Therapy for PTSD, I am excited to share psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy as a healing modality that can impact millions of people. I received this therapy in 2020 due to a childhood trauma-induced PTSD diagnosis and have been working to demystify MDMA therapy since.
I have not only written a memoir detailing that year of healing, but I have also created an intentions-setting workbook and a YouTube channel where I create the content I wish had been around when I was going through this therapy.
I’m super excited about working with people and organizing retreats as I am currently working on my Thirdwave Psychedelic Coaching certification.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I have a unique knowledge base in that I come from an instructional technology background along with a long-ago English teacher career. So, the idea of creating content about MDMA therapy via social media was exciting. I had a ton to learn about video editing and the platforms, but I found my experience and ability to search YouTube were enough to get my voice out there.
Content creation aligns with my basic mission, which is to help people. One of the best feelings I can replicate is seeing another person’s light bulb turn on when they understand a new concept or idea. I enjoy seeing podcast hosts who were confused about psychedelics in the healthcare space suddenly “get it” when I break it down and explain the medical procedure involved in psychedelic-assisted therapy.
Lastly, in many ways, my trauma isolated me as a child and an adult. I didn’t have the childhood memories that people often use to bond. Talking about my father’s beatings and my mother’s suicide attempts made people uncomfortable very quickly. Learning and feeling that discomfort from others very early on taught me to simply live my life and not pay so much attention to what others think – because they only have their experience from which to draw. That learned freedom absolutely led to my comfort level in openly discussing mental health issues and psychedelic use, regardless of the stereotypes around both of those subjects.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
While I enjoy content creation and writing, I really enjoy working with people so I have joined Thirdwave’s Psychedelic Coaching program. I want to help people who might find themselves stuck at a certain point in their lives – just as I was a few years ago. As part of that commitment, I want to organize retreats and events. I’ve found psychedelic tourism to be a powerful tool in my mental health toolkit and I want to create those kinds of opportunities for others. I look forward to connecting to others with similar visions!
