Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jill Stewart. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jill, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I found my purpose in the last place I expected to find it. Why does it seem that just when we think we have things figured out, everything can turn completely upside down? Happily, life’s challenges developed into opportunities which uncovered my passion for art.
When we become what we do, there is something of ourselves that is lost. When we become our “why”, what we do becomes how we live our purpose. My “why” is my purpose.
I live my “why” as a portrait artist by giving a visual voice to what speaks to the soul, putting art within reach of those who share a passion for creativity, and helping others find their self-expression through art.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Following a rewarding career in corporate marketing and communications, I accidentally discovered my true purpose, as a portrait artist, one afternoon at a paint and sip event.
After experiencing a variety of art class learning models including group, individual and self-guided, I realized a need for comprehensive, in person, limited-capacity, judgement-free art instruction.
Regardless of skill or confidence level, I meet each student where they are using my intuition and collaborative style to deliver an individually unique experience.
The biggest reward for me happens when art impacts someone’s soul – in a class or special event – it is magical when people are amazed at what they can create. Also, when I deliver a commissioned portrait to a client, and their reaction is expressed through their eyes, I know I’ve accomplished my goal.
In 2023, Art + Soul on Wheels hit the road to put art within reach of those living in and around Central Colorado. From intentionally limited-capacity portrait art classes to paint party events for larger groups – everyone receives a unique artistic experience.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
1. Curiosity I found a mentor who inspired me to continue to sharpen my hard and soft skills.
2.Uncomfortableness
Coming up with reasons to not do something is easier than developing a plan and executing a concept. I ask myself regularly, “if not now, when?”
3. Intentions
When I discover I am not honoring my “Why” I course correct and embrace the change!
Develop an internal fortitude to leverage your passion into your “why”.
Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
Staying aligned with my “why”; recognizing when I veer off course and having the courage to tweak my actions to match my intentions.
