Meet Jill VanderYacht

We were lucky to catch up with Jill VanderYacht recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Jill, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?

I have worked diligently for much of my life to build and maintain my confidence and self-esteem. Growing up as a very quiet and introverted child this did not come naturally to me, and I believe that (especially as women) we are taught not to stand out or make waves and certainly not to brag or talk about ourselves. As an adult, confidence was a learned skill that I realized was crucial to my success in the business world- to help me professionally and also personally.

Now, as an Executive Career Coach, I support other professionals to elevate their confidence and learn how to speak clearly and confidently about themselves and their accomplishments. This is a necessary skill in order to excel in our careers, be recognized for our achievements and be considered for promotions and new opportunities.

My approach blends a combination of drilling down to understand each client’s individual strengths and passions and utilizing this to design their unique value proposition. We then build off if this to create a professional framework that they can be proud of and use to demonstrate their skills and expertise to employers.

From there we employ techniques that allow them to clear the blocks and insecurities that may be holding them back and preventing them from achieving their true potential. These are some of the same techniques I’ve used and refined over almost a decade of working with professionals. They are also tried and true techniques that I’ve used myself to hone my own skills and confidence so that I can run a successful coaching practice that has helped hundreds of professionals reach their career dream and goals faster and more effectively.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

As an Executive Career Coach at VanderYacht Consulting for nearly 10 years, I help professionals excel in their careers and land 6-figure roles. In recent years we’ve seen a LOT of changes in the job market, economy and the workplace that are affecting so many professionals.

The job search is especially challenging now because it has changed so drastically so quickly that what worked even a year ago, no longer works. Job seekers really need an ally and coach more than ever. I am passionate about helping professionals break through the noise and land new, higher paying roles faster and without the struggle.

One way I do this is through my signature coaching program Executive Edge where I personally partner with professionals to elevate their branding, marketing and executive presence related to their careers. SO many professionals are missing some or all of these pieces and are spending too many months- even years- grinding away trying to move up in their careers without success.

With our work together, I provide a strategy, framework and support that gets them moving forward to a new, higher paying position faster and without the struggle and overwhelm. For many, this means going from having a job search that takes months or even years- drilled down to weeks.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

The 3 most important qualities that I believe were most impactful in my search are confidence, trust, and perseverance. I shared more about confidence above, but I truly believe that this is one of the most important aspects to running a business. If we are not confident in ourselves and our abilities- no one else will be.

I also believe that trust is a quality that is super important- both trust in yourself and the ability to build trust with others. Both trust and confidence are qualities that require you to be reflective and honest about yourself and deal with anything that may be holding you back. Working with a coach or mentor is essential so that you can clear any limiting beliefs and setbacks early on so that you don’t drag down your own progress.

Lastly, perseverance is a quality that serves all of us personally and professionally. This is what keeps us from quitting when things get tough or don’t work out as we had imagined. Most good things require practice, and we may never see the outcome of all our hard work if we give up too easily. This is another area where having a coach or accountability partner can be helpful. I have been part of an entrepreneur accountability group for years and find that it not only keeps me accountable but gives me new ideas and the chance to see things from a new perspective.

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?

My biggest area of growth this year has been learning how to position myself and my business in order to have more visibility as a business owner. As a solo entrepreneur I wear many hats and one of those is as a sales rep and marketer. I knew that if I want to grow my business and have more impact, I needed to reach more people.

I’ve explored new avenues this year to do that by hosting more training webinars to help professionals with their job search. It has been very gratifying to meet new people and be able to help them move their careers ahead, especially after being stalled for so long.

I have been sharing strategies and techniques related to the job search and careers in these monthly webinars that help with topics like: Mastering Your Job Search in 2025, Avoiding Ghost Jobs & Scams, and Keeping Your Job Search Moving Through the Holidays.

I’ve found success in sharing these webinars through LinkedIn, Eventbrite and my website where I’ve reached new people, built my audience and been able to help more professionals with their careers.
