Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jillian Waun. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jillian, thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?
My optimism has been fueled by gratitude. Gratitude has by far been one of the most important practices for me, especially in my early 20s while navigating new challenges that come with being an adult. There is so much to be grateful for, even on a bad day. There are also so many small things we take for granted to be grateful for!
I’ve watched people around me either thrive in life with a good mindset of optimism, or slowly crash and burn while they believe they have very little to be thankful for, even though they have so much!
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a marketer specializing in social media, UGC, and influencer management. Specifically, I work with health & wellness CPG brands to create eye-catching content that educates their target market.
In college, I was a fashion blogger a little bit before it was cool, which led to me collaborate with international brands like Steve Madden, and attend New York Fashion Week. But, as much as I loved expressing myself through fashion, it was extremely draining on my confidence as a young 20-something. I found myself constantly scrutinizing photos of myself, which led me to burn out. At the same time, I became increasingly more interested in wellness, and my journey with it snowballed from there.
Being a former fashion blogger gives me a unique perspective as a social media marketer. And my journey with wellness is a long and winding road. One of the most pivotal parts of my journey was when I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s and hypothyroidism at 25 years old. My belief is that we live in a modern world, and while we can’t all be self-sufficient homesteaders, we can educate ourselves on cleaner product swaps. That’s why I love doing what I do for wellness CPG brands! I get to create content that spreads the word about healthier choices.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Here are three things I’d want anyone and everyone to know and start living by:
1. You can be scared of your dreams, but you should go for them anyway. You should have some kind of plan, but you don’t have to figure it all out immediately.
2. You have one life. Don’t live it for others. Find the things you are passionate about and believe in, then leave the rest at the door.
3. Be gentle with yourself. You are your own worst critic.
Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
My biggest area of growth is being more unapologetic about who I am and the choices I make. We have one life. Listen to your gut: it doesn’t lie.
