Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jim Trotta Davis (AKA Suburbanoid). We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jim Trotta , thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
My resilience stems from my inspiration to create and my desire to forge a deeper connection with both myself and the world around me; this connection, in turn, fuels my resilience and inspires me further.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Hello, I’m Jim Trotta Davis, also known as Suburbanoid. I am a music artist, composer, and facilitator of sound bath meditations. The music I create is peaceful , relaxing , and meditative, featuring a variety of instruments that I play.
These instruments include the fusion sitar, Tibetan and crystal singing bowls, Ebow guitar, Baglama, guitars, gong, kalimba, synthesizers, ocean drum, buffalo drum, and my voice.
My latest album, released in January 2025, is titled Sound Bath Meditations, (The APM Music. Collection). The album cover is one of my favorites, and it includes my cat Parvati amongst my instruments.
This album is a collection that was curated by APM Music (Universal/Sony) and is now included in their music production library, available for synchronization worldwide for all kinds of visual productions.
For synchronization inquiries, please contact APM music at info@APMmusic.com.
Currently, I am in the recording studio working on a new sound bath meditation album, as well as an EP called Rebuild, which was recorded during the devastating Los Angeles fires in 2025. The first track, titled Morning Sun, was released on Earth Day 2025, and the Full EP will be available later this year.

At present, my entire music collection is accessible as “Meditation in a Bottle”, which is a USB (cork top) thumb drive encased in a bottle. It features bonus videos and short films, such as my Virtual World Tour Concert for Japan, filmed at Meditation Mount in Ojai California . Additionally, my online store offers CDs and album download packages with handmade tie-dye socks and shirts by Betties Baked.
Regarding my sound bath meditation sessions, my current monthly offerings take place every Sunday at 10 AM at Meditation Mount in Ojai, California. This offering is now in its fifth year. Additionally, I host my Deep Resonance sound bath meditation every second Saturday of the month at Meditation Mount, concluding with a collective meditation for peace.
This event is also held once a month at Move Sanctuary in Ojai, California, and every second Friday night of the month at the Santa Barbara Yoga Center in Santa Barbara, California.
Recently, I have been recording two different television shows at the local Santa Barbara TV station, TVSB.
The first episode of my show, “Suburbanoid Sound Bath Meditations”, premiered in June 2025, and my TV show “Suburbanoid Relaxation,” with the first episode titled “Walks with LilyBelle”, will debut in August 2025.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The first skill I believe I needed to cultivate and maintain is self-teaching. I began this journey at a young age, around nine, when I taught myself to play the instruments available to me, including the guitar and piano. My approach to learning and teaching was quite intuitive; I read a few books here and there, but my true dedication came from consistent practice and creativity. This method has been my approach to music and many other aspects of my life. The second skill I would highlight is the determination to pursue what resonates with your heart. The third skill I would mention is self-sufficiency. When I was young and started composing music, I quickly set up a small home studio, and since then, I have always maintained a home recording and video studio to ensure I have control over my creations without relying too heavily on external sources.
Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
At times, I can feel quite overwhelmed when juggling multiple projects or during recording and live performances filled with numerous technical details. In these moments, I make an effort to slow down, tackling each task one at a time, piece by piece, rather than rushing ahead. I try to embrace a natural flow. Although this isn’t always simple, these are the strategies I rely on when I start to feel overwhelmed: I take a step back, take a moment, and concentrate on the first task that requires my attention.
