Hi Jimi Primetime , appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

It comes from my family and faith,my mom (Johnnie Mae Dunson) always instill confidence in resilience in me and everyone around her. My father was a strong worker, and naval man.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I am a singer, songwriter, musician, entertainer. I started singing at 8, learn guitar from Jimmy Reed at 12:, started touring with him at the age of 14. And I have been doing this music thing for over 50 years, travel the world. I am on several recordings with other artists, and I have four solo recordings including my latest on new folk records entitled Jimi prime Time Smith it’s my time. I guess the most important thing to me is being a true honest person that shares my talents with other individuals and I have even taught Young children on how to conduct themselves as a musician and in this world.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

I would say being humble, and true to your craft, the things that I can share is a strong work ethic, honesty, learning to be yourself as a performer, and learn the business and of this entertainment field. I recently have just started learning more about the business, as I’ve always been a musician that was more concerned with entertaining and didn’t concentrate on the business aspect of this music. But at the end of the day it is a business too, so learn all you can about the business end of it along with your entertaining craft.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?

The most impactful people in my life were my parents, certain Blues musician like Jimmy Reed, Eddie Taylor, Hubert Sumlin, Captain Jack McDuff, BB King, Albert King, who I’ve learned a lot of how to play My guitar, sing and perform. My mom was a drummer/songwriter to help promote me and development along with all these other musicians I have named. So so far I’ve had a great life, even though it’s a struggle sometimes. I would say gain all the knowledge you can from all those that are around you and take what you can to help develop you in every aspect.
