We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jimmy Salazar a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jimmy , really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
My purpose has always been there I just ignored it. It’s that thing in the back of your mind your gut your intuition. The path and situations in my life had a big impact on how I got to the path of least resistance. From battling self hate and lacking confidence to dealing with alcoholism, and working on loving myself daily. Going through all that I realized I’m a silent light worker. I am here to help others, help others come alive in whatever my path puts in my way. My purpose is to help others.
I AM A HONEST VALUABLE AND ACCEPTING MAN, PASSIONATE ABOUT BEING ALIVE TODAY!

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I actually dislike writing, and reading. So I already knew I wouldn’t do well in a traditional school. Long story short, my life was pretty good not horrible. I started doing drugs in high school. I didn’t graduate. Went to rehab realized I love doing hair on friends, and loved that it wasn’t traditional school. So I applied while in rehab. Graduated and it’s starts there. I realapsed 5-6 times. In The course of 18 years. I have 7 years sober now. A lot has happened in between. I have done a lot of work on myself. To realized what I have known my whole life, which is to help people. So I help people within my industry I help people in my 12 step program, also people that are placed in my path. I work with woman’s homes and do hair makeovers for woman to help them find a job. When someone is in my chair I always listen and help anyway I can.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1.Choose and move. I always choose and never think on how I am going to do it I just do it. JFDI ( just fucking do it.) recently I heard someone say I don’t know what to do in life. I was like yes you do what was the first thing that came to your brain. That’s what it is. Choose and move. Do it without thinking how or if it will be successful, if for any reason it doesn’t workout pick something else. You’re waisting your time thinking on what people think, and if it will work that 3 years go by and you have done shit.
2.integrity- I never really not had Integrity I just picked and choose when I want to have it. Which means I never knew what it meant. Being young in Boy Scouts we learn this but when I did work on my self I learned the true meaning and the power it gives you in a personal level. Being accountable to one’s self and mean what you say and say what you mean, helps a lot in self building in personal life and work life. If your personal life is suffering so will your business.
3. Acceptance- it’s hard but I had to accept where I am in the moment at any time in my life and accept that it’s where I am supposed to be. Realizing it’s always learning and improving when I think it’s something bad it always turns into a lesson or even something positive. So spinning out of control on what you don’t have control over is insanity.

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
You’re not alone. USE YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY. I cannot do this alone. I use different people in my life for different things ask for advice and take it. I pray and meditate to god /higher power to guide me and find the answers and trust that it will be ok. Having faith in the people I love is everything. If I need help with anything I ask 3 people I trust and love for answers and always go with what they say no matter what. My mom is one of them she brings love acceptance and compassion, also clarity. My husband damon he brings facts logic and devils advocate. My 12 step sponsor he bring honest and straightforward in their communication, saying exactly what they think without beating around the bush; essentially, they tell you things plainly and openly, without trying to sugarcoat or avoid difficult topics. those are my main 3, SIMPLE. What they say goes in situations I cannot decide on my own, work, personal, relationships, health etc.
