Meet Jimmy Star

We recently connected with Jimmy Star and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Jimmy , thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
My work ethic comes from my background and upbringing. I was adopted as an infant into a middle class family that worked hard and provided all the basic necessities in life, but not all the extras that I wanted to fit in with my friends and peers. I started mowing lawns at 10 years old and got a paper route to earn money to buy designer clothes and shoes.

I saved a lot of money working three jobs through high school and studied hard to go to college. I grew up thinking everyone was smarter than I was, so I studied hard to be at the top of my class. I worked full-time through college and got a great job upon graduation. The job required 65-80 hours a week, and I worked hard to become successful. I had always worked a lot and was used to it. Something that is considerably different from what the youth of today experience, I was always taught that no one would give you anything and if you wanted to be successful you had to work for it.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I work in the field of entertainment. I host The Jimmy Star Show with Ron Russell, one of the biggest podcasts in the world where we interview celebrities. We recently broke 1.1 billion downloads.

I also work as a movie producer with over 43 films under my belt, I am currently raising money for a slate of films I am working on in all genres, family, horror, suspense, thriller and action.

I am a publicist with my own company called World Star PR which I run with my business partner Eileen Shapiro. I was named best Entertainment Publicist in the US in my first year as a publicist.

I am also an influencer with 1.2 million followers in social media.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I think the most important skills that impacted my journey would be 1. listen 2. learn empathy 3. be nice

I think that everyone needs to learn to listen. I know we all think we know everything, but we dont, and listening and learning from others will help you in whatever field you choose. Be empathetic. Not everything goes well for everyone all the time, learn to feel for others and yourself when going through bad times, and learning to listen is a big part of this step. Be nice. No matter what field you enter, treat people the way you want to be treated. It goes a long way in all relationships, whether it is personal or professional.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Working as a film producer, I am always looking for people to collaborate with. The most difficult part of making movies is finding investors to invest in your projects. I have a great track record of making money and enjoy working with people, and I have an incredible slate of films ready to be made with the right investors who are looking to make money in the entertainment industry. The films I produce are in the $1-$17 million dollar range.
