Meet Jimmy Tropicana

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jimmy Tropicana a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Jimmy, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
My grandfather came to this country from CUBA at 40 years old leaving everything behind and never complained once. Started over at a late age with no financial backing, no employment lined up and without the ability to speak English. Rebuilt his life and provided for his family and his future relatives. That is work ethic and that was I aim to achieve.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My biggest passion is providing quality goods, services or entertainment for people. I think someday I will flourish in the hospitality industry but for now these are my main projects: 1. I operate TROPICANA GOLF CLUB, we are a 700+ member GOLF CLUB. We have chapters in Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Florida. We have golf tournaments, social events and weekly golf events.
2. I own TROPICANA barber shop in GLENDORA, CALIFORNIA. Winner of BARBERSHOP OF THE YEAR, 3 years in a row. Traditional Barbershop with emphasis in Customer service and Customer Satisfaction.
3. Tropicana Media – Recently I’ve taken what I know about building brand and building a business through social media and have assisted other companies in their growth. I’m creating content for them, posting and editing and helping them establish themselves as an online powerhouse.
4. Tropicana Entertainment – I’ve taken to YouTube to teach people an easier way to play golf. I’m not a professional but I have figured out how to get people’s attention and that is most important.
5. Saved By The Band – I’m the lead guitar player in the WORLD’S GREATEST 90’S BAND. We play, weddings/corporate parties/ private parties etc. WE ARE SAVED BY THE BAND!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1. GO FOR IT – If you think you have an idea, find out how to get it done. Don’t say, “someday” or “maybe in the future”. Do it today, NOW! 2. Don’t try to be perfect. Nothing is ever perfect. Just do it and do it as best as you can and it’ll work.
3. There is no finish line nor trophy in life. Keep going, the race is never over, until it is, at that point you won’t know its over.

If you knew you only had a decade of life left, how would you spend that decade?
We are in a down economy. The people that have money have A LOT of it. The people that don’t, HAVE NONE. I’m trying to figure out how to provide, entertainment/services to people that are strapped for cash. I empathize with them and want them to enjoy as well.
