Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jimothy Martin. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Jimothy, so excited to talk about all sorts of important topics with you today. The first one we want to jump into is about being the only one in the room – for some that’s being the only person of color or the only non-native English speaker or the only non-MBA, etc Can you talk to us about how you have managed to be successful even when you were the only one in the room that looked like you?

You know what? I’m all about owning my vibe—no one else looks like me, and that’s awesome. My hair’s big, my voice is loud, and my style? Totally a choice. I see it as a chance to stand out. I don’t need to wonder why I’m often the only one in the room; history has its reasons. But I want to use my platform to make space for others like me—and even better, for those who are even weirder. My goal? To bring some fun and quirkiness to those otherwise drab, soul-sucking gigs. Let’s color outside the lines in those boardroom meetings!

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I’m like a creative Swiss Army knife when it comes to content production and social media management. Right now, I’m all in on this awesome project—running creative direction and production for a new web show called The Cowboy Somm. If you’re into wine and want a taste of a fun, food-network-style show hosted by a cowboy, you’ve gotta check it out on YouTube!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Creativity: You’ve gotta bring your A-game with fresh and engaging ideas. It’s all about thinking outside the box to grab your audience’s attention and set your brand apart from the pack. This means nailing storytelling, crafting cool visuals, and dreaming up innovative campaign strategies.

Adaptability: The digital world is a wild ride, always shifting. So, being able to pivot and keep up with new trends, platforms, and what your audience craves is crucial. Staying flexible helps you stay relevant and connect with your audience, even in a fast-paced environment.

Most importantly—believe in yourself. The longer you’re in creative marketing, the smoother it gets. But here’s the thing: everyone, especially your higher-ups, will have opinions they swear by. Just gently remind them that they hired you for your expertise. Don’t just nod along and watch your vision turn into a chaotic mess—stand your ground and keep it real!

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

I’m really looking to connect with people—or brands—that are all about embracing humor in their content. Seriously, making people laugh is what I want to do for a living! I came super close with my last full-time gig; we were doing some really fun stuff until they got bought out by the unfunniest folks on the planet. It was such a bummer!

Now I’m itching to dive into a passion project. Whether it’s a sketch show, a short film, or even something completely off-the-wall, I want to create something that everyone involved can be genuinely proud of. I believe in the power of laughter to bring people together and make life a little lighter.

And hey, if I decide to jump back into the marketing game full-time, I’d love to work with a brand that isn’t afraid to laugh at itself. Those are the kinds of projects that really get me excited—where we can push boundaries, take risks, and remind everyone that marketing doesn’t always have to be serious.
