We recently connected with Jinyun Li and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jinyun, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
My work ethic is grounded in the early stages of my career in the creative industry, where I quickly learned that creativity alone wasn’t enough to achieve success. As I progressed in my career, I realized that my reputation and credibility depended on my reliability. Clients and teams rely on me to deliver not only visually compelling work but also work that is functional, on-brand, and ready on time. This commitment to reliability and quality has become a cornerstone of my approach to design. I’m driven to uphold a high standard in every project, whether it’s a major UX overhaul or a small graphic design task.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
As a product designer and visual artist, my work sits at the intersection of art, technology, and user-centered design. I’ve always believed that design is a powerful tool for storytelling and connection, and my goal is to create experiences that resonate on both an emotional and functional level.
What excites me most about my work is the ability to blend creativity with problem-solving. I’m constantly experimenting with new mediums—whether it’s film, installation art, or interactive digital experiences. This cross-disciplinary approach allows me to bring a fresh perspective to each project, infusing elements of art into digital design to create unique, immersive experiences for users. My current focus is on designing interfaces and digital assets that don’t just look good but also offer meaningful, accessible interactions that enhance people’s lives.
I also had the honor of winning some design awards. This recognition reaffirmed my belief in user-centered design and encouraged me to keep pushing boundaries. The experience has inspired me to take on more ambitious projects and to keep striving for excellence in everything I create.
In addition to my UX design work, I’m also passionate about my artistic pursuits. My art often reflects themes of transformation, persistence, and connection, and I enjoy creating work that invites viewers to interpret and connect with it in their own way.
Looking ahead, I believe there’s a lot of potential in exploring how people can engage with art in spaces outside of traditional screens, and I’m working on designs that would encourage viewers to become active participants in the art experience.
Overall, my work is driven by a desire to create something meaningful—whether it’s a digital product that makes life a little easier or an artwork that sparks reflection. I hope to continue creating experiences that bridge the gap between functionality and beauty, helping people connect with technology and each other in new ways.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I believe three qualities have been especially impactful: resilience, adaptability, and effective communication. Resilience has kept me moving forward through challenges and setbacks, teaching me to see each obstacle as an opportunity to learn and grow. Adaptability has allowed me to embrace new tools, mediums, and trends, continually refreshing my approach and expanding my skill set beyond design into areas like 3D modeling and installation art. Effective communication, especially in cross-functional teams, has been essential for translating complex design ideas into relatable concepts, building trust, and fostering collaboration. For those early in their careers, my advice is to cultivate these qualities through a commitment to continuous growth, openness to diverse experiences, and a mindset that views every challenge as a chance to improve and make a meaningful impact.
What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
When I feel overwhelmed, I prioritize taking a step back to regain perspective. I break down my tasks into smaller, manageable steps, focusing on the immediate priorities rather than the entirety of the project. This approach not only makes the workload feel lighter but also helps me maintain momentum without getting lost in the details. I also make it a point to give myself permission to pause and recharge, whether it’s taking a short walk, practicing a mindfulness exercise, or engaging with art outside of work. These breaks refresh my mind, allowing me to return to the task with clarity and a renewed sense of purpose. For those facing similar challenges, I’d recommend finding a routine that works best for you—whether it’s practicing self-care, or seeking inspiration in different ways. By approaching each challenge one step at a time and allowing yourself space to recharge, you can tackle overwhelming moments with resilience and focus.
