Meet Joanna DeLane

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Joanna DeLane a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Joanna, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.

Honestly, I haven’t fully overcome imposter syndrome, and I think it’s important for people to know they’re not alone in feeling it. Instead, I focus on how I deal with it. I’ve developed little practices that help me manage those feelings. Meditation is huge for me. I meditate daily, sometimes multiple times a day, to stay present, remind myself I belong exactly where I am, and build confidence in my abilities. I also rely on my support system. My husband, my family, and my friends lift me up and believe in me even when I struggle to believe in myself. I don’t know if I’ll ever completely silence imposter syndrome, but the more I practice these tools, the quieter it gets, and the more I can show up fully in my life and work.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

First and foremost, I am an actor—that is my true passion and what I will always pursue. Along the way, I’ve discovered a love for producing, creating opportunities for myself and my friends. Most recently, I line produced my first seven-episode series, now in post-production, and I’m excited to bring my own series to life early next year, with a first draft complete and a table read coming up soon. I also have small creative projects that keep me grounded, like cake decorating and making greeting cards. My cards are especially close to my heart because I repurpose recycled paper from scripts and callsheets, blending creativity with sustainability.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back, the three qualities that have been most impactful in my journey are determination, curiosity, and the willingness to say yes. Determination has kept me going through challenges, to keep moving the goal post, and to keep pushing even when things feel uncertain. Curiosity has fueled my growth, whether it’s taking classes, learning from mentors, asking questions, or being unafraid to speak up and feel like a beginner. Saying yes to opportunities, even when they scared me, has opened doors I never could have imagined and has been a huge part of getting me where I am today. My advice for anyone early in their journey is simple: don’t quit. Skills are developed through repetition, trial and error, and consistent practice. The only way to grow is to keep showing up, keep learning, and keep saying yes to the opportunities that excite you—even the ones that intimidate you.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?

Over the past year, my biggest area of growth has been practicing the law of attraction, especially through the teachings of Abraham Hicks. She talks about how our thoughts, feelings, and beliefs shape our reality. What we focus on grows, and the energy we put out draws experiences to us. It’s been a total game-changer for how I approach my career. Instead of stressing about what I don’t have or comparing myself to others, I focus on what excites me and what aligns with my goals. I visualize the projects I want to work on, imagine the collaborations I hope to create, and take inspired action when opportunities come my way. It’s not about forcing things. It’s about staying aligned so doors open naturally. Doing this consistently has helped me trust myself more, stay confident even when things feel uncertain, and notice opportunities I might have missed before.
