Meet Joanna Faivre

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Joanna Faivre. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Joanna, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
I continually take actions towards my craft and that gives me enough strength to keep going, plus, practicing constantly is giving me the confidence that I know what I’m doing and that I have mastered makeup skills.

Self-esteem goes with boundaries, so little to no social media for me, and I do not hesitate to refuse my services when I feel disrespected money wise or human wise!

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am a makeup artist, what I feel is most special about it is the creativity that comes with this art form, it is endless and I am constantly evolving! It is really special to make people feel beautiful, on top of it.

I focus my services on making it about my clients expectations, not mine. When I start working with someone, I ask a million questions to try and get to know them, to understand who they are and how they want to show up for their event, what kind of occasion is the makeup for, etc!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
My best area of knowledge is being able to work for different cultures, I worked with a lot of people that didn’t speak my language, I have a diverse and international clientele. It requires adaptability, being sensitive, knowing how to “read the room”, and having mastered my craft. Being fluent in English is my best advice, if that is your mother tongue, then learn Spanish or mandarin for example. Travel, expand your mind to different culture to be able to expand your clientele later on!

What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
The number one challenge for me is social media, it scares me to be honest! I feel judged every time I open Instagram, keeping up with the trends, facing hateful comments, having to film everything I do when I work.. It is overwhelming!

What I am doing to overcome it is actually not using it, I don’t promote myself there, instead I reach out to agencies and I have a booking agent for two year now. I do have an instagram for portfolio purposes, but I am not really active outside of that. I wish people would pay more attention to my website.
