We were lucky to catch up with Joanna Murray recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Joanna , thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
Where do you get your work ethic from? Ben Murray
I learned my work ethic from the two influential men in my life. My grandpa was one of the hardest working men I have known. He would wake up early every morning and work diligently until he went to sleep at night. My father was also another great example. My dad worked harder and longer than most men I have known. He took pride in what he did no matter the task. He showed me that mediocre work is never acceptable.
Where do you get your life’s purpose? Jeremy Brummer
Christ has provided various chapters establishing my ever changing life’s purpose. Prayer and following His guidance through His word; learning daily, walking worthy of His name and giving all of this life to glorifying Jesus in hopes to have a Christlike purpose filled life for His namesake.
Where does your optimism come from? Ashley Brummer
My optimism comes from the fact that my hope is not in this world, but in a hope that comes from my faith! Psalm 39:7 says “But now, Lord, what do I look for? My hope is in you”, and my optimism comes from the fact that I know what we are working towards! We are working towards sharing the hope of Jesus with our community by providing a need that will help break the poverty cycle. Thankfully, I know the ending of our story, there is hope in the saving grace of Jesus. I want our city and the world to know that hope as well!
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Our focus is primarily on our nonprofit, Midsouth Hope Garage. MHG is a locally based organization that accepts donated vehicles, makes all necessary repairs and donates them back out to the most vulnerable in our community. We are currently the only organization that provides transportation in the greater Midsouth area.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Ben and Jeremy are able to apply their mechanical skills to serve others by using their learned trade. Joanna has worked in the nonprofit sector and was able to use her experience to help grow MHG. Both the Brummer and Murray families are adoptive families and and are passionate about loving and caring for the vulnerable, including women and children.
If you knew you only had a decade of life left, how would you spend that decade?
We see many applicants that have been taken advantage of by a mechanic repair shop. Our desire is to open a full time mechanic shop that would operate at a significantly discounted rate while providing a trusting and reliable safe for the vulnerable. In order to begin this venture though, we need to acquire a commercial building. We are praying that someone will support us in this endeavor in the near future.
