Meet Joanna Suazo

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Joanna Suazo a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Joanna, thrilled to have you on the platform as I think our readers can really benefit from your insights and experiences. In particular, we’d love to hear about how you think about burnout, avoiding or overcoming burnout, etc.

¡Salud y bienvenidos!

My name is Joanna, the owner/founder of Its JoJo LLC.

As an owner of a mobile bartending business, I’ve learned to develop strong boundaries and intentional time-management skills to overcome burnout. In an industry that thrives on long hours, high energy, and constant availability, I recognized early on that sustainability required structure. By learning to delegate tasks, streamline booking and prep processes, and schedule recovery time with the same priority as events, I was able to protect my physical and mental well-being without sacrificing service quality. This skill not only helped me avoid burnout but also strengthened my leadership, improved consistency for clients, and allowed the business to grow in a healthier, more sustainable way.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

The journey for Its JoJo began during a major life transition – becoming a parent – which reshaped my priorities and purpose. Building this business allowed me to blend flexibility with passion, creating meaningful experiences while staying present for my family. Professionally, my focus is on building a sustainable, well-structured mobile bartending business centered on quality service, intentional balance, and long-term sustainability.

Serving Houston and the surrounding areas, our mobile bartending services are all about creating elevated, one-of-a-kind experiences that leave a lasting impression. We bring creativity, energy, and style to every event- and we’re excited to shake things up with new projects and unforgettable celebrations in the year ahead!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back on my journey as a business owner, I can see how much I’ve grown beyond simply providing a service. What started as a passion for hospitality evolved into a commitment to creating elevated, personalized experiences that truly connect with clients. Along the way, I’ve learned the importance of managing my time, setting boundaries, and protecting my energy – especially while balancing entrepreneurship and parenthood. Developing a stronger understanding of business strategy and operations allowed me to move with intention, build sustainable systems, and envision long-term growth. This journey has shaped not only how I run my business, but how I show up as a leader, creative, and professional.

Some feedback I can provide if you’re early in your journey is…focus first on building your foundation with intention rather than trying to do everything at once. Prioritize client experience by paying attention to details, listening closely to feedback, and allowing your creativity to evolve with each event. Those small refinements are what will set you apart over time. At the same time, develop strong time management habits and boundaries early on; protecting your energy and scheduling rest is just as important as booking clients. Finally, invest in understanding the business side from the beginning – learn your pricing, create clear processes, and don’t shy away from systems that bring structure.

Growth becomes more sustainable when creativity, balance, and strategy move forward together.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?

When I start to feel overwhelmed, I take a step back and prioritize what truly needs my attention, breaking tasks into smaller, manageable steps. I make sure to schedule short breaks to recharge – whether it’s a trip to a coffee shop or time with family – which helps me regain focus. I also lean on systems I’ve built – relying on checklists or workflows to reduce mental clutter.

For anyone feeling overwhelmed, my advice is to recognize the signs early, give yourself permission to pause, and create structured routines that support both productivity and self-care. Balancing action with intentional rest is key to sustaining momentum without burning out.
