Meet Joanne Homestead

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Joanne Homestead. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Joanne, so great to have you on the platform. There’s so much we want to ask you, but let’s start with the topic of self-care. Do you do anything for self-care and if so, do you think it’s had a meaningful impact on your effectiveness?

I really had to reassess what self-care looked like for me after having kids while running my business. Before, I would go out for long hikes, mountain bike rides, and, for hours, cozy up in a corner reading YA fiction and cry my eyes out at the sadness and beauty and redemption in all the novels. After having kids, I didn’t do any sort of self-care besides once in awhile jumping in the shower when I could. But I found myself in burnout, and putting an immense amount of pressure on myself to grow my business and support my family as the sole income earner. I was exhausted. With the support from various coaches, I realized how important self-care is as a mom and entrepreneur. And self-care looks different now, and that’s okay. At night, for 30 minutes, after the kids fall asleep, I read a chapter in a book, meditate, and stretch before going to bed. I also take care of my body by doing strength workouts 1-3 times per week. These short increments of self-care have made ALL the difference for me because I do them on a daily or weekly basis. I feel energetically lighter, and physically stronger. I’m in a better mood. I’m no longer running on fumes. I can show up for my business with a different energy, and be more present with my family.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I’m a storyteller at heart in, as I like to say, the fantastic world of emails marketing. I love seeing my soulful clients get their messages out there with audacious authenticity in email-fashion, and getting their soulmate clients saying ‘yes’ to their offers with integrity. Through the art of storytelling and the heart-led persuasive power of copywriting, my clients’ emails stand out from the crowd, cutting through all the online noise. It’s amazing to see the feedback they get from their email newsletters and email sequences, including personal responses, significantly more engagement and clicks, and turning lurkers into their #1 fans snapping up whatever they’re putting down.

For my soulful entrepreneurs and collaborators, I’m so excited to share my newest copy coaching offer. If you want to be clear on who you’re talking to, what they need to hear, and how to speak to their personality code, I have a new a-la-carte version of my 3-month Burgeoning Bonsai copy coaching program. So far, clients have used 2 to 4 a-la-carte sessions to get clear on their brand messaging and get personalized feedback on their copy, so they can attract their soulmate clients with audacious authenticity. This is my newest offer on top of my done-for-you email sequence packages and holistic copy coaching program. Please connect and reach out if you’re interested in collaborating or working with me!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

(1) MONEY — Money management, money mindset, and money energetics is definitely at the top of my list of skills and knowledge that has most impacted my entrepreneurial journey. As creatives, we tend to ignore our numbers or outsource the financial side of our business. I’ve been learning to take back control and dig into my numbers in an aligned way that helps me make better business decisions, promote with purpose and confidence, and create a money management system that works for me.

(2) GENEROSITY — Besides the whole money side, I’ve found generosity has had a huge impact on my business journey. It’s amazing to see the ripple effects of the pay-it-forward mentality, community over competition, and other women entrepreneurs who are willing to give of their time, energy, and expertise in a way that’s generous and yet protects their boundaries. So, be generous in a way that’s energetically aligned with you.

(3) SYSTEMS — This last piece of advice has to do with BEING ORGANIZED. When you have systems in place, it not only frees up your time and provide a stellar experience for your clients, but things aren’t falling through the cracks. When you’re organized, you’re better able to help your collaborators, power partners, and clients because everything has a place. Personally, I start with taking action and then create systems that fit the exact needs of my business.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?

My intuitive coach and mentor, Rina Lang, was instrumental in helping me overcome challenges, release emotional and mental blocks, and build routines for my wellness and well-being. Though, at the time, she was also a business development coach, we mainly focused on my personal growth. She introduced me to mediation and the forgiveness prayer, and catapulted me back into my spiritual life.

We worked together for just over half a year, and we got through some major blocks around choice, self-care, and money mindset. Now I can see it’s not that “I have to support my family financially” but “I GET to support my family financially…by doing the work that I love!” It’s not that “I have to do self-care” but “I GET to do self-care to show love and appreciate for my physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual bodies.”

Rina was also the push I needed (she’s an action taker!) to add copy coaching to my services. She volunteered herself to be my first copy coaching client because she wanted to learn how I used storytelling and copywriting to connect, compel, and soulfully sell through email newsletters and sequences. She also wanted to learn how I write high-quality email content so quickly. As we worked together in this capacity, she gave me invaluable 1:1 training in coaching and energetic work which I now use with my copy coaching clients to help them not only hone their email copywriting and storytelling skills but release emotional blocks that come up when we’re stepping up and showing up in our businesses.

Though Rina and I worked together several years ago, I won’t ever forget the significant impact she made on my personal AND business growth journey. From our time, was born my mantra — Personal growth is business growth.
