Meet Jocelyn Bishop

We were lucky to catch up with Jocelyn Bishop recently and have shared our conversation below.

Jocelyn, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
The word resilience speaks to so many volumes in my life. I believe with the help of God, I’ve been able to be bounce back from anything. As a child growing up, I remember not having no food to eat on many occasions. I use to look for beer and sodas cans around the neighborhood to have them cashed in. Once I received the money. I would go to the store and buy something to eat. “ I had to go through it to get to it in order for me to remain strong as a person. I had to had to stay optimistic because there was no other choice for me.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am an Author of my first book called She Found Strength. I wrote my book to share my story of growing up in the foster care system at a young age. To inspire other people around the world. I want others to know how impactful my foster parents were in my life.

I have been employed with the school system for 14 yrs as a Janitor. For the past 3 years I’ve been a Night Chief Supervisor.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three most important skills that were impactful upon my journey are never give up, it’s always ok to try again and continue to work hard no matter what happens.

The advice I would give is if I can do it you can too.

How would you describe your ideal client?
I would like to be on the Oprah Winfrey Show one day to share my story with the world. She’s a person who is an inspiration to me. I am inspired by her she carries herself as an African American women. The way she treats other people around her. Also, how she helps her audience and wants to see them strived for greatness.
