Meet Jocelyn Jonaneth

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jocelyn Jonaneth. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Jocelyn , really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

My earliest memories of making people smile are of whenever I made art. That is how I found my purpose. I love to make people smile. I realized that every one of God’s creations since they are made from God, then they too have the ability to create life. Life is art. The probability of being born is so small that just by being alive means that I am unique. As if that wasn’t enough, it is by God’s graciousness that not only do we get a opportunity to experience human life, but we also receive the ability to experience it abundantly and are meant to thrive in it. God gives us the ability a natural born gift or a “purpose” that is meant to be shared with others and make the world a more beautiful place. As long as I can remember I have always been gifted with the ability to make art. No one taught me how to draw, nor did I teach myself. I just always could. The ocean ebbs and flows harmoniously, flowers bloom effortlessly, stars and planets orbit harmoniously, the birds fly high in the sky… I create art.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

As an artist, I specialize in painting and photographing monochromatic coastal landscapes, seagulls, and wildflowers. The most exciting thing about painting is the power I feel when I capture the majestic qualities of my muses in a seemingly perfect way. When I paint, in a way, I can predict what people will feel. As an actress however, I strive to bring to life characters without attempting to capture any type of perfection and instead show up as authentic as possible. It’s messy, but I choose to let go and let God and my creations take me by complete surprise. I never know what will happen on a stage and whether a performance is beautiful or not is not of importance, and that is exciting because it’s an art-form that continues to liberate me.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Absolutely! I experienced a lot of pain and suffering early on in my childhood. It was a pretty traumatic childhood and upbringing. I had to grow up fast and this manifested itself in even more suffering as an adult. This is something that I have come to find, similarly a lot of people go through. The problem is that people continue to live life carrying their emotional baggage and never question why, or what old deep rooted beliefs and narratives they are perpetuating in the present moment. That is what is causes more unnecessary suffering. People internalize struggle and hardship without realizing that they have the power to heal and live an abundantly joyful life. Through prayer, meditation, and Breathwork, I was able to peel back all the old layers, let go of all that did not serve me, and reveal my authentic self, skills, power and self-worthiness.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?

I have read hundreds of books, and still, by far the one that changed the course of my life the most is “The Untethered Soul,” by Michael Alan Singer. The main concept of this book that has been most impactful for me was the idea that we are not our thoughts. We are a soul observing thoughts. This concept is so much deeper than I initially understood. Of course, I felt that I always knew that I was much more than my thoughts, and yet for most of my life I allowed my thoughts to control me. Whenever I had a fear based or limiting thought, it prevented me from taking action and that caused me a lot more suffering. Or a negative thought caused me to perceive others in not a positive way, which caused my relationships to suffer. I understand this piece of wisdom better now, and it has freed me up to achieve goals that before I would have never imaged possible. If I have a limiting thought, I now understand that I am not my thoughts, and especially when I feel fear, with God, I do it anyway.
