We recently connected with Jocelyne Guzman and have shared our conversation below.
Jocelyne, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
I maintain my resilience through my passion and a deep belief that challenges are stepping stones to success. Growing up in a Mexican household, my parents introduced me to the value of hard work and taught me that with dedication, what is meant for me will naturally fall into place.
Even when things feel tough, I remind myself that the effort will be worth it once everything comes together beautifully. This mindset keeps me motivated and focused whenever I face a difficult task or project.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m a Houston-based Makeup Artist and Fashion Enthusiast. Earlier this year, I was honored to be featured in The Princess Magazine, and now I’m so grateful to share my story with Voyage Houston.
One of the most exciting aspects of my work is creating makeovers for Bridals, Quinceañeras, and other personal events. These moments are so intimate and special, and I feel privileged to be a part of my clients’ important days. Helping them feel the most beautiful version of themselves is truly the most rewarding part of what I do.
While I don’t have any official launches planned at the moment, I’m currently working on a few fun and exciting projects—stay tuned for more details soon!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, three qualities that have been most impactful in my journey are patience, adaptability, and creativity.
Building a successful career takes time, and there were definitely moments when I questioned my progress. But I’ve learned that consistency and trusting the process always pay off. For those just starting out, focus on improving your craft and don’t get discouraged by slow progress—good things truly take time!
This industry is constantly evolving—new trends, techniques, and client preferences are always emerging. Being open to learning and adapting has allowed me to stay ahead and meet my clients’ needs. Never stop learning, and don’t be afraid to embrace change—it’s the key to growth and standing out.
Creativity is at the heart of everything I do. Whether it’s creating a look for a client’s special day or exploring fresh ideas for a shoot, it’s what keeps my passion alive. For those just starting out, I’d recommend finding inspiration everywhere—whether it’s in fashion, art, or nature—and using it to create something that’s authentically yours.
To anyone beginning their journey, my advice is simple: stay patient, stay adaptable, and keep your passion alive. Trust yourself, celebrate every small win, and remember that each step forward is a meaningful part of your unique story.
To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me was making the brave decision to leave Mexico and come to the U.S. to build a better life for our family. They’ve been nothing but supportive of my path throughout my entire life, even giving me the push I needed during my most challenging moments.
Their courage and sacrifice in leaving their home to raise me and my brothers here in Houston have shaped who I am today. They are the bravest people I know, and I’m endlessly grateful for their love and strength.
