We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jodi Grieshop. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jodi below.
Jodi, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
I get my resilience from knowing and believing that failure is not an option. This stems, first and foremost, from how I was raised. Resilience is a result of my work ethic and drive paired with self respect and deep pride in all that I do. I knew I was in control of never letting anyone else outwork me. Every goal I reached pushed me to set bigger goals, maintain existing goals, and feel good about how my work impacts other people. This ultimately led me to creating the unique salon concept, Edge Boutique, launching later this summer.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Since childhood, I knew my destiny would lead me to the beauty industry and the success I’ve achieved. When your job is something you love doing, it will never feel like work. Because of this, I’ve always had inspiration, drive, passion, and confidence. As a working mom, I know I have to pave the way for my kids. I want them to understand what it looks like to work hard and take pride in what you do. The best gift I can give my kids is leading by example to teach them that loving what you do and working hard leads to ultimate success.
24 successful years in my industry has led me to my new endeavor, Edge Boutique. I saw a need in the industry for reasonably priced, efficient, consistent and professional service. Edge is so much more. The brand is fun and trendy, a destination anyone will be comfortable visiting for an experience to remember that they will want to share with their network.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three most integral qualities impacting my journey include passion, hard work, and presence. When you love what you’re doing, are passionate and are having fun, work doesn’t feel like work. Always being present has afforded me the ability to embrace every learning opportunity and learn what not do to. I have been able, in my day-to-day, to soak up every moment with gratitude. Working in an industry where connection is of utmost importance, my presence allows me to positively impact everyone I am fortunate enough to work with, clients and colleagues alike. My advice is to understand that there are enough clients to go around so lift others up along the way. Never burn a bridge. Old fashioned word of mouth is the best way to build and maintain your business. Connection and trust with your client is just as important as the style itself.
What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
Creating and launching the Edge Boutique brand in a way that people, employees and clients alike, understand the concept and all it stands for. I embrace this task as an opportunity to move forward confidently knowing Edge Boutique will be a success and serve a purpose for all.
