Meet Jodi Harrison

We were lucky to catch up with Jodi Harrison recently and have shared our conversation below.

Jodi , thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
Well… where does my resilience come from? Honestly from compassion and my empathy/ love for people and their differences! In the world we live in it should be a necessary life skill! I can’t imagine not being able to adapt to all of the challenges, chaos, and adversity around me. With being a hairstylist since 2010 the amount of changes have been surreal. I know it’s not slowing down anytime soon so I will continue to fill other peoples cups with all the good energy and vibes I can!

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am a stylist in downtown Weatherford at Sustainable Soul Salon & Refillery. I am a happy wife doing life with my best friend and momma of 3! My life is both beautiful and crazy! There truly is never a quiet dull moment haha! If I am not behind the chair you can find me making all the laughs and memories with my family!

Over my many years in the industry I have found my passion in hair design and color. I can’t say that I love one more than the other because both create such different emotions for people. I love the creativity behind both avenues and being the person people call in the BIGGEST moments of their lives whether they are getting married, having babies or going on a trip I have been able to spread joy to my clients in such special ways! I feel like we are family!

Did you know that the beauty industry alone creates 877 pounds of waste every minute? This is why Sustainable Soul is partnered with Green Circle Salons to help keep people and our planet beautiful!! GCS helps us recycle 95% of the salon’s beauty waste! If you are ever in the area please come check us out! We will become your new favorite place!

Doing hair has opened up so many doors for me and has opened my eyes to the world around me. I have met so many people along the way and knowing I am part of their story is something I cherish! I promise you won’t regret sitting in my chair!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back I would have to say having an open mind and making yourself teachable, having compassion for change, and allowing yourself to grow. These three things are on a vast spectrum ‘I know’ but being able to do these things sets the tone for your business and allows the sky to be the limit. Our industry is very saturated, and in the beginning its hard to get started… the change its had over the last decade is mind blowing! We have to be able to create a way to stand out, find a skill set that you are passionate about and perfect it! Over the years I have had many talks with stylists who become discouraged… I always say “don’t give up, I promise that its worth the hard!”

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
I have had many challenges over the years and many times wanted to quit… but I have to say the team I work with today at Sustainable Soul Salon and Refillery has done nothing but fill my cup in every aspect of my career. Their knowledge, passion, and talent has brought so much life and many opportunities to my table. They welcomed me with open arms and genuinely care about my growth. The hype and celebration for every person’s successes is such a sweet breath of fresh air and I adore calling them my home!
