Meet Jody Leigh

We were lucky to catch up with Jody Leigh recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Jody, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?

My work ethic was shaped early on. As a child, I wanted to buy things, but we weren’t wealthy, so my parents couldn’t always provide everything I asked for. They taught me the value of earning my own money, and if I asked how I could help, they’d assign me chores that I could earn money from like emptying and putting away the dishes, washing and waxing the car, and raking leaves.

This instilled in me the understanding that hard work leads to independence, a lesson that has stayed with me throughout my life. As an adult, I’ve always been punctual, willing to stay late, or put in overtime when needed. I’ve maintained a strong drive to succeed by following the rules and doing my best.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

After working a demanding 7-to-3 job for many years and enduring a grueling two-hour daily commute, I reached a point where I had to make a change. My health was suffering, and I was even falling asleep while driving due to multiple sleep disorders. I realized I simply couldn’t continue down that path. That’s when I made the bold decision to turn my part-time passion for content creation into a full-time career.

I’m incredibly proud of how far I’ve come and the exciting ventures I’ve launched along the way. One of my biggest accomplishments has been launching RentMyLooks.com, a subscription-based clothing rental service that allows people to refresh their wardrobe without the commitment of buying. It’s been amazing to see how this idea has resonated with others.

I also re-launched LifeByJody.com, my lifestyle and beauty blog, where I share my experiences, insights, and passions. What makes this journey so special to me is that it’s not just about content creation—it’s about connecting with people, inspiring them, and showing that it’s possible to transform a hobby into a thriving career.

I’m excited to continue growing these projects and can’t wait to see what the future holds. For anyone looking to make a leap of faith in their own lives, I hope my story shows that it’s never too late to rewrite your path.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back, three qualities that have been most impactful in my journey are perseverance, resilience, and determination. These traits have been the foundation of my success, especially during challenging times when giving up might have seemed easier.

Perseverance has taught me the value of staying committed to my goals, even when progress felt slow. Resilience has helped me bounce back from setbacks, reminding me that failure is just a stepping stone to success. Determination has kept me focused and driven, no matter how many obstacles I’ve faced.

My advice to anyone early in their journey is this: don’t give up. Stay persistent and keep pushing forward, even when the path seems uncertain. Challenges are inevitable, but with determination and a belief in yourself, you’ll overcome them and reach your goals. Remember, progress often comes from consistently showing up and putting in the effort, day after day.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?

When I feel overwhelmed (which happens more often than I’d like), I’ve learned that the best thing to do is step away and take a break. Whether it’s a short walk, a deep breath, or even just a few moments of silence, giving yourself space can help you regain clarity and focus.

Organization is also a big part of how I manage overwhelming moments. I use a planner to map out my content schedule for the entire month, which helps me stay on track and ensures I don’t miss important deadlines. For brands with specific posting dates, having a clear plan allows me to prioritize and avoid last-minute stress.

When I can, I try to work ahead. This not only keeps me consistent but also gives me the freedom to take a couple of days off if I need to (though, let’s be real, I usually use that time to shoot even more content!).

One important lesson I’ve learned is to be kind to myself. If I can’t keep up for a moment, it’s okay—I deserve a break, and so do you. I don’t beat myself up over it. Instead, I regroup, refocus, and show up again the next day. Consistency is important, but so is balance. At the end of the day, I stay committed to my channel and my goals while giving myself grace when I need it.
