Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jody Mohoff. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jody, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
I was raised by a single mom whose struggles to provide for my brother and I encouraged me to help out. I knew that I wanted to do what I could to avoid her same struggles. Piles of bills on the kitchen table causing tears of frustration every month. My dad had custody of me for half of each summer and he taught me to wake up before sunrise to get a head start on the days project. Trying to beat the summer heat. Almost everyday we had a big project from logging, kitchen remodel, road repair, painting the house etc. I’ve known since as far back as I can remember, life takes grit. It’s not easy but it sure beats the alternative.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I fell into craniosacral therapy at the age of 20 working for a veterinarian whose primary practice was animal chiropractic. She intertwined craniosacral and acupuncture techniques into her practice. Withing the first four months of working for her I signed up to take my first Upledger Craniosacral class. I completely connected to the work. It was natural for me. From there, I continued taking more classes and eventually got certified as an Advanced Craniosacral Therapist through Upledger Institute. My practice grew from a few clients a week to 55 a week. Five years ago I bought some commercial real estate that would give me the option to work with other great local practitioners. From there Alternative Wellness Group was born. We offer craniosacral therapy, homeopathy, counseling, massage, reiki, hypnotherapy and a Detox Room.
I primarily focus on structural body/cranial issues but often my work involves many other facets of care. Emotional trauma, head trauma, migraines, anxiety, gut issues, Dimentia, Parkinson’s etc.
Coming soon, I will be offering Cranio Float sessions. The client will be lying in a Dry Float table (floating on water) while I work on them. I see this being a great benefit for those who have experienced trauma.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Honesty, trust and dedication.
I was honest with myself with what I wanted and what was a reality, and I just kept pushing towards that one step at a time.
I trusted the process, which became very difficult at times when the phone wouldn’t ring for a day or two. As soon as I relaxed and trusted, the phone wouldn’t ring and I’d be booking another client.
Dedication to myself and clients. In the beginning I took every client and worked any day of the week. Now I’m dedicated to taking care of myself and having strong boundaries around my schedule and the people I want to work with. This makes working a pleasure.
Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
It’s easy for me to feel overwhelmed. Not only am I running my own business, I am a landlord, building manager, president of my HOA and a hobby farmer and I do it all alone. My brain never quits so there are always new goals and the list is ever growing. When I catch myself in overwhelm, I focus on what’s really important and recognize what I do not have control over. Some stuff gets pushed to the side, some things I let go of. I realize I am not super woman. If I am not smiling each morning then it’s time for me to let something go. Imperfections will not kill me. (Laughing)
