Meet Joe Aboud

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Joe Aboud. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Joe, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?

From a young age, my family taught me that success doesn’t come without hard work. As a first-generation American, my immigrant parents and grandparents instilled that value in me, and I witnessed firsthand how a strong work ethic had shaped my family’s lives. That’s why I work hard and play hard!

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I started an artist development company called 444 Sounds to help guide musicians, artist managers, and record labels with everything from strategy & branding to marketing & promotion. I work with artists of all genres & in all stages of their careers, and it’s incredibly rewarding to help them find their fans.

The majority of my experience has been working at record companies, both major and independent, and that has given me invaluable perspective on what is truly needed for artists to succeed in the current landscape.

Working hands-on with artists for years has made me acutely aware of the gaps that need to be filled and we try to give artists the tools they need to take their careers to the next level!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

The music business is incredibly competitive and the passion for my career has been essential. I have consistently been all-in on this path and it’s hard to find successful people in this field who don’t share that sentiment.

I have also always had a desire & willingness to learn and improve on myself and my work. I still find myself learning things every single day and I’m not afraid to say that! When you stop learning, it’s stops being fun.

Finally, communication and respect have been key tenets to my success. Reputation is everything in this business and I always want to ensure that clients who work with us feel valued.

For people early in their journey, always remember you’re not too good to do anything and people want to work with people they like and respect.

We’ve all got limited resources, time, energy, focus etc – so if you had to choose between going all in on your strengths or working on areas where you aren’t as strong, what would you choose?

When I was working my way up the corporate ladder in marketing, I was sure that I needed to stay in that department to continue to rise the ranks. While it’s important to play to your strengths, I’ve realized how impactful it has been to become an expert in other areas. As a self-made executive, it’s clear to me that a great leader must have a well-rounded knowledge of their business.
