Meet Joe Charley

We were lucky to catch up with Joe Charley recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Joe, thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.

My optimism comes from a combination of personal experiences and the incredible support of my Angels, both on earth and above. Throughout my journey as an artist and advocate, I’ve faced challenges that could have easily dampened my spirit. However, every setback was met with overwhelming belief, encouragement, and support from those around me. From a young age, I’ve been surrounded by a community that instilled in me the importance of hope and resilience. My family, friends, and supporters have been pillars of strength, reminding me of the power of positivity, especially in the face of adversity. So, if I can make a difference for just one person, that gives me hope.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I’m Joe Charley, or JC for short. I wear many hats as a son, nephew, brother, uncle, cousin, godfather, mentor, friend, writer, model, actor, and musician, just to name a few.

My career began as a child model in the late 90s, and since then, I’ve had the privilege of working with renowned brands like Target, Footlocker, and JCPenney, directing shoots, shows, and coordinating many Fashion Week experiences. My acting journey has taken me to various stages and film sets, where I’ve explored complex roles and told compelling, award-winning stories. As a musician, I recently released my EP “B.A.M.B.I,” exclusively streaming on my website, which also launched in May 2024.

What excites me most about my work is its ability to transcend boundaries and connect with people on a deep, emotional level. This work is incredibly rewarding, as it allows me to give back and make a tangible impact in my community.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back on my journey, resilience, adaptability, and empathy have been most impactful.

First, resilience has been crucial. Second, adaptability has allowed me to thrive in various creative fields. Whether transitioning from modeling to acting or exploring new musical genres, being flexible and open to change has opened many doors. Lastly, empathy has been a guiding force in my career. Understanding and connecting with others on a deep level has enriched my art and fostered meaningful relationships.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?

Several key people have been instrumental in helping me overcome challenges and develop the essential skills, qualities, and knowledge needed for success. My family has always been my foundation. Their belief in me has been a constant source of motivation.

Mentorship has also played a major role in my development. I’ve had the privilege to learn from exceptional mentors such as my grandmother, Sarah Hampton; aunt, CEO, and life coach, Neda Kellogg; vocal coaches Dr. Jeffery Hess and Dr. Bea Hasselmann; my late pastor and Godfather, Gregory Bauldwin; and the late spoken word artist and arts educator, Brittany Delaney. Their insights have been invaluable, helping me refine my craft and navigate the ups and downs of my life and career.

I would advise others to actively seek out and nurture these relationships. Surround yourself with people who believe in your potential and are committed to investing in your growth. Their support can make all the difference in your journey.
