Meet Joe Grah

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Joe Grah a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Joe, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
When I was young, we moved around quite a bit, so I didn’t have much consistency, but my imagination and the will to explore and create seemed to counter any inadequacy I was experiencing. Relocating from one side of the country to the next made it impossible to blend in as the roots I established decoupled with each move. These constantly changing environments, cultures, and ideologies felt like a freight train crushing me. The level of fear, isolation, frustration, detachment, and loss, while stifling most, somehow activated my internal mechanism to want more. All I have is my desire and the will to fulfill it.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I was initially lured into this madness by the rush of adrenaline and the feeling of belonging to something. When you’re a punk-ass kid, music has an unmatched ability to infiltrate and relocate. Drums were the thing that pulled me in, then vocal melodies, wordplay, guitar, bass, keys, production, etc. Creation at its best is an effortless motion, a streaming of consciousness that can relinquish one’s soul of baggage. Every time feels like the first, regardless of frictional uncertainty or beautiful lucidity. The final result is a cathartic therapeutic release. My latest Pure just dropped.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Nothing can prepare you for yourself as it unfolds into the Universe. Listening with an open ear while remaining resolute will set a course for harnessing one’s true potential. Friction is vibration, and the bottom is only halfway there. The only thing standing in your way is nothing, be something.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
Because of my unorthodox upbringing, I wasted many years feeling like I didn’t need anyone or anything. While independence is a solid trait to garner, nothing compares to two or more people sharing the creative experience. My girlfriend Tiffany’s unconditional love showed me how to let people in, and now I’m fortunate to have a solid team I trust with my creative vision. Charles Salvaggio brings tonal sound and visuals like no other, while Evan Rodinache understands how to wrap it all up perfectly.
