Joel NR Powell, we are so deeply grateful to you for opening up about your journey about mental health in the hope that it can help someone who might be going through something similar. Can you talk to us about your mental health journey and how you overcame or persisted despite any issues? For readers, please note this is not medical advice. Your mental health is the guiding force for your well being. It’s the element that God put inside of us that gives us that sense of fulfillment and value. I’ve at times felt distraught and unworthy of success because of the constant belittlement I’ve encountered from those that I thought believed in me. A good friend of mine once told me that I was born to be courageous and that I should look every day into the mirror and tell myself that I am a star. I followed those steps so much that I ended up creating the persona “The NR Superstar”, which is a definitive reminder to myself that I am a star and my path is destined for spectacular accomplishments. You can only overcome mental health issues by first loving yourself and believing in a higher power, because no human being on this planet has the ability to say they are perfect. We must always practice empathy towards helping each other.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

NR Entertainment Inc is a global brand. It is set to take over the arts & entertainment industry by force. I’ve studied and been mentored by some powerhouse figures in the world of business and throughout the years I’ve learned heavily how to build an extensive brand through marketing, promotion and sales. It’s an endeavor that I was born into with my passion for DJing, then branching out into being a recording artist, author and now an entrepreneur.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful on your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Believing in you, being disciplined and staying consistent. This is not an overnight journey and there is no quick fix to get to the finish line. You have to be diligent and learn the ins and outs of your craft. No shortcuts. Get up and learn so you can be successful. I’ve encountered many talented individuals that are struggling simply because they refuse to see the world of business for what it is. There are no handouts. You get what you can negotiate, not what you actually deserve. If you’re just starting out in your respective field, please heed my words as you can’t go wrong by listening.

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?

Black Empowerment & Minority Issues is the book that changed my life forever. I am proud to say that because I wrote it. It was my first step towards putting together something that I knew would be impactful and stand the test of time. I’ve been able to tour across Canada & the United States doing book signings, performances, speaking engagements & meet & greets all because of the power of that book. I created the concept, the artwork, the layout and, subsequently, the spin-off film Empowerment through awareness & the music soundtrack 7 Issues EP. I will share with anyone that writing a book and sharing your testimony with the world will literally change your life forever. You just have to be brave enough to make it happen.
