Meet Joel Nunez

We recently connected with Joel Nunez and have shared our conversation below.

Joel, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
I am a 1st generation immigrant. I came to America when I was 7 years old with little to no guidance. I was forced to assimilate to a culture I didn’t know. The lack of guidance instilled a “figure it out” mindset that shaped me into the go getter I am today.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am an entrepreneur who turns challenges into opportunities to builds creative solutions. With over a decade of experience, I have developed exceptional problem solving skills and a large network of professionals in media and production all around the world. I have built a reputation for professionalism, reliability, and creativity making me a trusted collaborator and a valuable asset to any project.

I recently launched a new company called Glammy, Inc. www.instagram.com/glamcamnewyork — which is a company that will rent out our Cinebot and operate it on productions and events. This is super exciting because I have been following the technology for quite some time now and finally got the chance to purchase the robot and start using it.

I am in an intense growth stage right now where im hiring talented individuals and putting them in positions at my company that will help them develop professionally and take our business to the next level.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Resilience is the most important quality I posses. This ability enables me to brush off the stress that comes with running a business. Every CEO out there understands how difficult it is to operate a successful business.

Project/Time management is next on the list. Being able to take the stress associated with running a business and prioritizing tasks to solve problems and destress my team, and stakeholders has been crucial.

I’ve always been charismatic, and a people person which is what brings it full circle. Being an entrepreneur is largely about networking and managing multiple personalities. Throughout the years I have developed the skill to read people and understand what they value and making sure I respect those values and boundaries while maintaining my position on a matter in a respectful way.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
“Ego is The Enemy” has been one of the most impactful pieces I read recently. The book helped me take a step back and realize all the times I allowed my Ego to control situations that were detrimental to me. My biggest takeaway is that Ego actually slows you down. The author gave a few examples about how some of the most successful entrepreneurs and inventors of the world had one thing in common – when things got good, they kept their Ego hidden. Think about it like a graph. The average person wants to celebrate after achieving a goal due to ego. Imagine that the graph is an upward curve showcasing a persons success. Now imagine the graph plateauing when the person achieves a goal and goes off to celebrate. The difference between the average person and those high achievers is that they keep going. Like Kobe said “The jobs not done is it?”
