Meet Joelle Brian

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Joelle Brian a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Joelle, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

I think that when you are a child you are most likely to show sings on what you truly have a passion for. Whether that be wanting singing as a child and wanting to be a performer or gravitate towards trucks and putting out fires because you want to be a firefighter. I think these times are critical because you genuinely gravitate towards these desires without all of the input of the world around you. Luckily when I was a kid my parents saw the things that I liked and what they saw me being talented in. They encouraged me to lean into that and being that I was called to be an artist, performer and entertainer, it was easy for me to find my purpose. Everything aligns when you find your purpose and nobody can tell you any different, it is simply what you and are meant to do. So for parents I say, let your child show you what they are meant to do with very little influence. You are doing them a disservice if you try and put all your dreams and aspirations on them. Let them have their own. If you did not have the opportunity to find out or be told who you were as a child, I suggest therapy. I also suggest a lot of soul searching. Whether that be taking a lot of personality test, asking your friends or family what they see in you, stories from your past. OR just simply meditate and get to know who you are without the world having a say in the matter.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I am a singer and songwriter. Which means not only am I an artist with my own aesthetic, technique and brand but I also lend that process for others to find out. I teach others how to have a voice and also help them format their feelings and situations into a cohesive song and story. I have been doing this for about a decade now and have had the privilege of writing for other artist. Seeing my work become a part of their legacy in return having more of my legacy out there until the end of time. It is what I am leaving this earth and for it to be little lenses into the human experience is amazing to me. Right now I am focusing on expanding my brand and performing live. I am looking for new venues to tell these stories and touch the hearts of audiences everywhere.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Wow, what a question. The first quality is patience. It is a process to make art. At times you want to spill your whole heart out and be done with it in one sessions. And at times you need to put it down, focus your attention somewhere else and come back to it. And other times it doesn’t fully come out right and you have to leave it where it is. Patience is key to knowing if something falls into either of those situations. The second I would say is a skill, which is outsourcing. You need to know what you are good at and what you are not. And what you are not you need to outsource. It would be for the better overall goal of completing a project the right way. People think they can do it all and its great if you can but it iss ok if you cannot. If you aren’t good at editing videos, hire an editor. It is ok. Breathe. And the third I would go back to qualities and say happiness. You have to be happy with what you are putting out, you need to enjoy the whole process or else people are gonna see right through your work. The are three things I feel would help a lot of people in their journey.

Tell us what your ideal client would be like?

My ideal client is someone who is has a passion for music. A passion to be an artist, a passion to make music and just needs guidance. Wether it is a person with a story who needs help putting it into a song or someone who has attempted to structure their thoughts and words and just has not been able to fully get to the finish line yet. I definitely want to work with people that have attempted to begin or need advice on how to attempt to begin writing a song. At the end of the day it is their music and their story and I want them to be leading in the direction we are going. I am just there to tell you which way to go when you reach a crossroads.
