We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Joey Jamesley a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Joey, thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.
To quote one of my exchange students from this past year, “You’re always so positive!” Now, truth be told, I’m not. I’m not always positive or feel like having a good attitude, but what’s the alternative? To feel like crap? That doesn’t sound fun at all. I have always tried to find the positive side to things. That mindset was really integrated when I went to Hypnotherapy school. I learned that whatever you tell the brain, it’s going to believe you. Remember that old saying, “Whether you think you can or think you can’t, you’re right”? It’s the same concept. If I go out with the attitude that the day is going to suck, then my brain says “ok!” and it looks for things to prove it right. Thankfully the opposite is true! Say it’s going to be a great day, your brain will find things to prove that right too. Thank goodness, right!
So that’s what I try to do every day, in every situation. To be grateful and thankful for what is going on in my life. Oh, my car took a sh*t. OK, I’m thankful I have the means to fix it, and that I have a car in the first place! I always used to stress out about money. But in one of my advanced Neurolinguistic Classes, I heard a mantra that stuck with me. “There’s more where that came from.” I say that any time I spend money, or anytime money comes to me. In order to have abundance you need to see abundance, to feel positive you have to see positively. It’s all about the mind my friends! That’s why my business mantra is “Positive Mind, Positive Life” and I truly believe it! It’s amazing how your life can change just by making that one adjustment.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I love what I do! It’s such a unique job, and I get to help people in a different way. Right now I’m focused on growing my clientele, starting my support group, and getting season 2 of my podcast launched in a few months. I see clients for different reasons, but my main focus is Relationship Recovery (divorce, narcissistic abuse) Fertility Issues, and Stress and Trauma Management. I help through hypnotherapy and coaching, or a combination of both. Why I love hypnotherapy is because it gives a way to dive deeper into what might be negatively affecting our lives. The most common misconception people have is that they are going to barf out all their secrets during a session, but the truth is for most of the sessions you don’t even talk during the hypnotherapy portion. You just get to sit back and relax like during guided meditation. People are surprised by that, and I think it helps them feel better knowing that. Also that I’m not going to make them bark like a dog or do anything crazy! No stage hypnosis here!
The two support groups I have is one; a private, women’s-only group on Facebook called Relationship Recovery, focused on divorce and narcissistic abuse. It’s a place women can go to get help, support and connection with other women going through something similar. I go on and do FB lives, Q&A, and post helpful videos. Other members also post encouraging thoughts, videos or personal stories too. It’s a great place to feel connected and supported.
The other is called After Hours – A Support Group. It meets the last Wednesday of every month at my office in Chandler. It’s a safe place for people to find support, equality & acceptance. A place where people are free to be themself, love themself, and celebrate themself. A place to build confidence in who they are. It’s nice to have a group that helps you to do that. In this group we talk, I teach tools, and we get positive affirmations and mind & body meditation work to help with grounding and positive energy flow, to grow that self love and confidence, and lessen the stress, anxiety and negativity.
And lastly, my pet project is my Podcast called “Life Got Me Like…” It’s on all major streaming platforms like Apple and Spotify. I’m getting ready to record season 2, and I’m so excited about it! I have some pretty amazing guests lined up! I spend 30 min talking with my guests about all things life. Sex, divorce, narcissism, money, you name it. It’s totally authentic conversation that’s unscripted, which I love. I feel like I learn something new from each guest just like my listeners do! Season 2 is going to be packed with so much new knowledge, you’ll laugh, cry and learn with me and my guests at the same time. All of season 1 is already out and ready to listen to, and if you subscribe or follow you’ll get notified when the new season drops. We have a totally new setup this season in the studio, my producer has made some great upgrades, so I can’t wait to get in there and start recording! It’s going to be so much fun!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Ohhh, good question! 1. Believe in your damn self!
You have a gift, whatever it may be, and it’s your duty to share that gift with the world! You never know who you might be helping! Even if it’s just one person, that is a positive impact that makes a difference. So don’t doubt your message, don’t doubt who you are. The first step is always the scariest, but do it anyway! You got this!
2. It’s going to be hard – sometimes.
Putting yourself out there is not easy. Whether you are starting a new business, going back to school, trying out blogging or being an influencer. It will get hard. But then it will get easier. Aaaand then it’ll get hard again, but it’ll get easier again too. Just because it gets hard, doesn’t mean that is a reflection of you or what you’re doing. We are meant to have adversity thrown at us! That’s how we grow! How we get better! So keep doing #1 and believe in your damn self, and then keep pushing forward! Fall and get back up, and keep on going!
3. Never stop learning.
Knowledge is power, so never stop seeking it! Let knowledge help you become the very best at whatever you are pursuing. We never reach a place where we have learned it all, so don’t let your ego get in your way. There is always room for growth. So never stop learning!
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I love networking and collaborating! I’m always looking to expand my circle with people who can positively help me and who I can positively help too. I would love to get more guests lined up for my podcast, and I’m looking for other podcasts that might want me on as a guest too.
I would really like to connect with news outlets, magazines, etc that want to know more about Hypnotherapy and how this modality of healing can help people. It’s a very misunderstood therapy, but it can be so beneficial. I love talking about what I do and the how we can heal our brains, and teaching people both the science and the woo-woo behind it! Everyone can benefit from Hypnotherapy, one way or another, so I really want to get the word out about it and help get rid of any stigma or misconceptions about it, and teach how amazing it actually can be for people.
