We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Joey Thurmond a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Joey with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
My work ethic is one that has developed throughout the course of my life. Coming from extremely hard working parents and grandparents they were essential in laying a fantastic groundwork for me to see how rewarding hard work can be. Over the course of my life I have employed that work ethic to everything I’ve done both professionally and in my home life. I guess you could call it the work hard – play hard mentality. Once I truly learned that being able to have and exercise self control and discipline I knew there was no stopping.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
My family is one that not only worked hard but loved hard too. While we didn’t have much in fact, the house I was raised in didn’t have an indoor bathroom for part of my childhood but, I was taught and still believe that love is the strongest element known to man and it only gets stronger when shared. I knew from an early age that I wanted to be an entertainer. The enjoyment that a great entertainer can bring to people’s lives is amazing. Being able to help a person escape whatever their reality currently is and bring them into a different world through acting, song, spoken words, comedy, etc. is a gift that few are blessed with but, somehow I knew that was part of the reason I was here. That was part of my mission, my calling if you will.
I have been a part of over 50 movies, television shows, stage plays, music videos, and more. From blockbuster feature films to award winning television series. Currently I am very proud to be a part of the feature film Perpetrators In Government Systems which has been nominated and won many awards including Best Feature Film, I also have staring roles in feature films about to make their premieres Fattenin’ Frogs for Snakes, and Frienemy for Life. The Award winning gospel music show The Red Back Revival Sing Along Show is now airing it’s second season in which I am honored to star in.
In the new television series Annihilation of Man, I co-produce and star in a leading role. This series is like non other! I am so excited about the journey this series takes the viewers on. A combination of current events, regular guys in extraordinary situations, that are dealing with the frustrations of life with the bombardment of social media, the news media, government control, until they just take it upon themselves to do something. Anything! The show has been called “Hilarious”, “Disturbing”, “Extremely Relevant”, and more. I play Chris, a regular Joe with a regular job who exists like we all do and tries to do the best he can with what he has. Chris, along with his best friend Steve, played by an amazing actor and friend Raxiel Liz who I had the pleasure of costarring in the movie Mistakes and Monsters, is the co-producer and writer of much of the series. Steve and Chris find themselves thrown into trying to make a difference for all of mankind because they have simply had enough of how society is being treated and developing into fear and hatemongering. The journey is wild with so many twists and turns and is the very first series that will include storyline plot that will only be available via social media via the show’s Instagram page.
The reviews are very positive.

Annihilation of Man is a great team up of two guys doing all the wrong things for the right reasons. One is “just tired” and the other is excited to play along!
Annihilation of Man has been acquired and is soon to be released on tubi, Amazon Prime Video, and Reveel Networks.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back I feel that truly living life and experiencing as much as it has to offer has been a huge part of my journey. My parents always gave so much support and encouragement for me to try and not be afraid to fail. The third quality I think would have to be always love. Love teaches us so many things, dedication, forgiveness, stability, fortitude, and compassion just to name a few. Without those qualities life would be pretty miserable.
My advice is to always try. Never be afraid to dance! Get out there and see what works for you. I hate to hear the expression “I wish I could”. If it’s true, if you really wish you could, then go and do. Without fear of loosing or failing. We have to learn how to fail. It’s an art to always learn from every experience.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I’m always looking for people to work or collaborate with. I love networking. I think it’s one of the best ways to build relationships with others. I love living and learning from others who are passionate about what they do.
Working with others who are passionate and what I describe as a “Hard Charger” are the types I enjoy working with. Focused and willing to push forward all the while remembering to help as many as possible along the way. This new series Annihilation of Man was just such a project. We worked extremely hard, had a blast during production and writing, and were able to bring a few people along for the ride and hopefully learn from them and give their career a boost along the way.
