Meet Johannes Mekuria

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Johannes Mekuria . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Johannes , thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
Everybody has to face a stressful situation or traumatic incidents at some point in their lives. Few months ago , I lost my mother in a very tragic accident. It has been a very challenging and most toughest moment I have ever experienced .I got tested. But i told myself I must bear my lose like a soldier by Working on my faith and continuing my mother’s legacy . I believe that Your struggles develop your strengths. When you go through hardships and decide not to surrender, that is strength.

I know My mother defines a resilience.
I learned from her first stand what means to never give up and faith . She taught me how to stay strong when life throw you at trials. Resilience means you experience, you feel, you fail, you hurt. You fall. But, you keep going.

As a man , Losing my mom has undoubtedly been the most difficult experience of my life, but I’ve learned to love my grief throughout my journey; By channeling my inner demons into purpose, It has made me stronger and more compassionate, and I know myself and my purpose better now than I ever would have without my grief. I would trade it all to have my mom back, but I know she would be proud of me if she were here right now.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
My name is Johannes Mekuria . I’m a Fitness Coach, Athlete & Entrepreneur. I’m passionate about helping others improve the quality of their life through fitness .

My brand is JP Sports Academy LLC. It’s located in Tucker, Georgia. I offer both online and in-person training. I have been training for over 6 years now . Fitness is my life . It was the first tool that allowed me to develop the characteristics such as discipline, persistence and patience, that helped me in other aspects in my personal life and career. I use it also to keep my mental health .

I started my journey in my early teenage years in my home country Ethiopia . I got into martial art first , from that moment, I knew fitness would always be a part of my life. I then wanted to learn more about health and fitness so I enrolled into college and got my bachelor degree in kinesiology and later became a NASM Certified Personal Trainer. Over the years, I have acquired multiple certifications for fitness.

I’m also passionate about boxing. I’ve had an opportunity to train with high class boxing coaches over the years . Boxing is just more than a sport for me, its therapy. Now , I have designed the Ultimate boxing and Conditioning workout program for Beginners. I give a fitness boxing class in my gym . I also train busy professionals like lawyers , doctors who don’t have a time to come to the gym . I believe training boxing helps to sharpen your mind beside the physical benefits.
I offer a mobile service too . My training philosophy is simple, keep it functional, fun and challenging.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Passion , patience and building genuine relationship. These are the top three qualities that have impacted me the most in my career.

To be successful in any field you must be passionate, and the fitness industry is no exception. You must have a passion for fitness, a passion to help others achieve their fitness goals, and a passion for what you do. If you bring optimism and great energy to your sessions, this will be reflected onto your client.

A great coach is patient and understanding of the process, and can accept that everyone is different and will progress at different paces.

Building genuine relationships with clients is key to any business specially in fitness. This can mean genuinely invested in your clients goal and helping them to achieve their goals . For me, I really care about my clients. However, do not waste your time engaging with people that they don’t align with your value and brand .

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
Whenever I feel overwhelmed , I reset myself . Self care is important for me . I take a break and find something that can help me to rejuvenate my soul and body, such as long walk , travel , exercise , outing with Friends and Meditation .

If you feel stuck with overwhelm, focus on the present moment and focus on just one thing.  Take your energy and focus from everything else apart from the present moment and doing just one thing at a time.
