Meet John Beyer

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to John Beyer. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi John, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?

I grew up with very little in a small Midwest town. We didn’t have much, so I had to get creative, not just with money, but with imagination. That taught me early on how to stretch what I had and look at the world through a lens of possibility. By sixth grade, I was buying things from the dollar store and selling them out of my locker. That was my first real taste of entrepreneurship.

I also had a grandfather who worked with his hands and could fix just about anything. He had this mindset that nothing was disposable; if something broke, you figured out how to fix it. That stuck with me. It shaped how I approach problems, work, and even creativity. Between necessity, imagination, and that kind of example, my work ethic was built on resourcefulness and a drive to create something out of nothing.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I run a video production company called Stained Glass Productions. At its core, we tell real, human stories through film, stories that connect, inspire, and move people. Whether it’s a small business trying to make a name for itself or a testimony of personal transformation, I love digging into the heart of a story and finding the emotion that drives it.

What sets our work apart is the emotional depth. I’m not just behind a camera, I’m listening, learning, and building trust so that people feel safe to be seen. That vulnerability is where the magic happens.

Lately, I’ve been leaning hard into documentary productions, especially stories of faith, struggle, redemption, and resilience. That’s where I feel most alive…giving voice to stories that matter. At the same time, we’re helping small businesses share their own origin stories in compelling ways that go beyond typical marketing.

Right now, I’m focused on expanding our reach, taking on more passion-driven projects, and continuing to build a brand rooted in authenticity. My goal with every film is simple: tell the story so people feel it.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Three things have made the biggest impact on my journey: resourcefulness, storytelling, and emotional awareness.

Resourcefulness came early. Growing up with very little taught me to work with what I had. That mindset has stuck with me, I don’t wait for the perfect gear, budget, or conditions. I start where I am and make it work. For anyone starting out: don’t let limitations stop you. Use them. They’ll shape your creativity more than comfort ever will. Start small. Start now.

Storytelling is at the core of what I do. It’s not about flashy visuals, it’s about creating a connection. I’ve learned that the best stories come from listening well and honoring the person in front of the lens. My advice? Start telling the stories around you. The real ones. They’ll teach you everything you need to know.

And emotional awareness is essential. Whether I’m directing, interviewing, or just showing up for someone, I have to read the moment. Creating trust, knowing when to push or pause, that’s what draws out something meaningful. You can sharpen that by being fully present, ask good questions, and care about the answers.

Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about how business is not just business…it’s personal. Every client, every project, every story carries weight. This work is about people. When you treat it that way, everything changes. You stop chasing transactions and start building real, lasting impact.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

Absolutely…I’m always looking to partner with people who care deeply about the stories they’re telling. Whether you’re a business owner, nonprofit leader, artist, or someone with a story that needs to be told, I want to connect.

I’m not just looking for quick projects (although they can be super fun). I’m looking for the right connections, people who believe in the power of storytelling to move hearts, build trust, and create something that lasts. If you’re someone who values authenticity, emotion, and legacy over trends and noise, we’re probably aligned.

Let’s make work that matters. Let’s tell stories with longevity, not just for clicks today but for impact tomorrow.
