We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful John Dante. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with John below.
Hi John, thank you for joining us today and sharing your experiences and acquired wisdom with us. Burnout is a huge topic these days and so we’d love to kick things off by discussing your thoughts on overcoming or avoiding burnout
It is important to take time to rest and recover and try to avoid burnout as best you can. But sometimes with the lifestyle of a musician it is unavoidable and its something we all deal with. I suffered from a serious case of burnout last fall and spent a month in the hospital. I have been slowly recovering over the last year. l I try to keep a consistant schedule but have enough down time to balance it out. It is important to mix things up from time to time to stay inspired but having a consistant routine helps to keep things in line.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
John Dante and the Inferno has been performing live and releasing music for over a decade. I like to focus my musical career around songwriting and original music as well as keeping traditonal and classic rock and roll alive. We have a jam band mentality where no two shows are exactly alike and that keeps things exciting. The band released an EP and 2 singles last year and we are currently releasing new material via Patreon and Soundcloud and collecting songs for an album release.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Knowing your audience, knowing your instrument, and not being afraid to put yourself out there. Those are the most important qualities when trying at a career in music. You can’t spend all your time in the woodshed it is important to connect with people through your music. You never really know who is listening or what impact you can have on the world if you dont put it all out there every once and awhile.
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
My parents have been extremely supportive in my musical journey. My Dad taught me how to play at a young age and we are still playing shows and writing new material to this day. My Mom is one of my biggest fans she comes to all the shows and takes videos of the performances. I couldnt have made this much of an impact without their support.
