Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to John Mangiapane Jr.. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have John with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
My work ethic comes from my parents. My Dad was a commercial fisherman his whole life, and never took a day off-he still doesn’t to this day! Even though he is “retired” he still goes down to the fishing docks to sew net for the active fishing boats. My Mom put her all into raising me and devoted her life to teaching and instilling the values of perseverance and hard work. There was never a day she wasn’t there to pick me up from school, take me to basketball practice or make sure that my homework was completed. This daily dedication and passion is really what developed and set a prime example for me of how to apply and strive each day to reach your full potential.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I create and produce movie projects from start to finish including scriptwriting, directing, shooting, editing, and delivery across various platforms. It is really exciting to be able to conceptualize the story of the film from start to finish, from an idea-to a rough script-to the actual filming and editing-to the ultimate production of the final finished product. Then it becomes more gratifying when that little (or big) idea that you developed into a full feature film, finds success in festivals and in the case of my recently completed feature film “SHELLS OF MEN”, gets distribution on streaming platforms like Amazon Prime and Tubi.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I would say the 3 most important qualities and skills most impactful along my journey: -Do the work
-Education on the technical and concepts of the field
-Set the goal/application of hands-on experience
My advice to people early in their journey is to first and foremost to apply yourself with passion and hard work to achieving the end goal. Gain knowledge, education and respect for the craft. Then ultimately set your goal and DO IT! Hands on experience I have found to be best, don’t let your idea just sit around in the air to be talked about, MAKE IT HAPPEN.
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me was simply being there throughout my entire life. They had me late in their life and I am their only child. They dedicated themselves to my upbringing, and looking back as an older adult now it is amazing to see that love and selfless passion they instilled in my upbringing.
