Meet John Mclaughlin

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to John Mclaughlin. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have John with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?

My work ethic comes from growing up with bare minimum and the want to have more in life and what better way than hard work

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I’m a Jiu Jitsu instructor and I work a full time job. I feel like the most exciting part about what I do is watching people grow and get better . I also love the way all walks of life come together on the mats and everyone is the same . At headnod edwardsville and the HQ in granite city we have a different vibe than most gyms you walk in everyone is joking or practicing things before class , then we all get on the mats train hard and then sit around and talk after it’s a great environment!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

One is train with a purpose second I think you should pick an area and continue to work on it til you get pretty good at that one spot , third coaching is a privilege to be able to do it not everyone can coach a lot of people can teach but not many can do both .

Tell us what your ideal client would be like?

My ideal client is someone that just wants to get better with a good attitude towards the sport and people then encounter while doing it .
