Meet John Millett

We recently connected with John Millett and have shared our conversation below.

John, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?

Growing up in poverty makes one appreciate the value of the Dollar. When you grow up where people around you have absolute wealth but you live in poverty; it can make you angry or ambitious. I choose the later. The best advice I ever received was from a German Girl who said “Education is your ticket out of poverty.” That really resonated with me. In America, you can be anything you want. I choose to never be poor again. I put myself through college (with a newborn baby) graduated Top of my Class. My Work Ethic comes from real life experience. The harder I work, the more success came to me.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

We are Brad & John Millett.
Our mission is simple yet impactful: to invest private capital into Downtown High Springs, igniting a ripple effect of growth and prosperity throughout our charming town. When we acquired our historic 124-year-old building, we knew it was more than just a renovation project—it was a commitment to revitalizing our community.

We believe in the power of local talent and resources. That’s why we made a conscious choice to exclusively collaborate with skilled tradespeople from our own backyard, from Roofers, Plumbers to Electricians. By doing so, we’re not just renovating buildings; we’re reinvesting in our town’s economy, ensuring that every dollar stays within our community.
Small businesses are the backbone of the U.S. economy, representing about 60% of all enterprises. Here at Honeybee Ventures, we’re proud to support these mom-and-pop establishments by featuring locally made products in our stores. By giving small vendors access to Main Street foot traffic, we’re fostering a vibrant ecosystem where local entrepreneurs can thrive.

High Springs welcomes over 150,000 tourists each year, yet many overlook the hidden gem of our downtown. Our goal is to change that narrative. Through strategic partnerships with fellow downtown businesses, we aim to attract more visitors to our shops and restaurants, breathing new life into our historic district and ensuring its continued vitality.
Imagine the impact: if just 60% of visitors spent an average of $200 in our downtown shops and restaurants over a weekend, we could inject a staggering $18,000,000 annually into our local economy. That’s the power of community-driven initiatives like Honeybee Ventures.
Join us in shaping the future while honoring our past. Together, let’s preserve the heritage of High Springs and build a thriving tomorrow.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Tenacity, Resourcefulness, Faith
