Meet John Thomas Jr

We recently connected with John Thomas Jr and have shared our conversation below.

John, thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?
I learned to just be my authentic self when being 1 of 1 in a room. That is precisely what makes me unique and stand out from the rest. Besides, you’d never know how special you are if you weren’t being yourself in a room, and if being yourself isn’t enough for that room..your in the wrong room!

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’ve been writing, composing, & producing music for over 15+ years and love every minute of it! The most exciting part for me is being able to formulate similes and metaphors with double entendres while still getting points across in songs.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Patience, practice, and perception are 3 of the main areas of knowledge that were most impactful on my journey, not just in music but in life! For someone whose just starting their musical journey, these 3 P’s will play a major part in how your music and image is perceived, so work on each one until your satisfied with the results.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
Whenever i feel overwhelmed dealing with music, i tend to take a step back to see the situation for what it actually is rather than sitting in it with frustration. Sometimes you have to learn to give yourself a break to recharge your mental state and then come back with a fresh start and fresh ideas.
