Meet John Zarbock

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful John Zarbock a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

John, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

My purpose is to help optimize and self-actualize humans with quality of life improvement through strength training and exercise. I realized this in 2018 when I discovered how powerful motorized resistance technology was and how simple, efficient and transformative it can be to the mind, body and spirit of an individual when applied in a controlled environment and with trained facilitators. The mental fortitude and resilience that come from pushing oneself to the threshold of what they are actually capable of is such a powerful method for growth. It became abundantly clear to me that not only am I great at providing guidance and support for people who want to take massive action and make massive changes in their lives but I also find myself being optimized and self-actualized by doing that for others. It is the best feeling I have ever had and have since learned that the only way to get it is to serve and support the community. It is not something I can buy or rent. It is something I have to show up for and earn. The testimonials and feedback that I have received in the last 5 years have given me a completely different outlook on life. I realize now more than ever that physical fitness and quality of life are so important but are neglected by most of the population because they do not know how critical it is later in life and the current consensus and paradigm for what exercise is and how to do it are very skewed and confusing. What I do makes it very simple and safe and does not discriminate against any age, size, experience or disability. I believe that for me to fulfill my purpose, I must bring the knowledge of effective and efficient exercise through motorized resistance technology to the whole world.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

BioFit is a Quality of Life and Human Exercise Transformation Company that provides the most Effective, Efficient and Safe Exercise on the planet in as little as 20 min a week. Our patented machines deliver evidence based, data driven results in real time that cannot be matched by any fitness company or system in existence. We are looking for anyone with muscles and bones who value their time and want to spend it doing more of what they WANT rather than what they HAVE to do.

John is many things; a father, a veteran, an entrepreneur and a visionary. He believes his purpose on this planet is to contribute to the elevation of human consciousness and use his natural born gifts to inspire humans to self-actualize by discovering their full potential. It is in this ‘discovery’ that his passion and mission are manifested by inspiring, educating and motivating humans to bridge the gap between what they THINK they are capable of and what they are ACTUALLY capable of.

Born and raised in south St. Louis, graduating from St. Louis University, commissioning from Washington University ROTC and serving in the Missouri National Guard for more than 20 years has given him many diverse perspectives and experiences on leadership, team building and being a student of life. His pride for St. Louis and his community powers his inexhaustible desire to see potential transform into reality. He founded BioFit in 2018 with the hopes that by offering the most effective, efficient and safe strength training technology and biohacking fitness options we have available to us today, he could help build better humans to inevitably build a better city and a better world. He believes that each and every human is born with a very specific set of gifts and talents that contribute to the collective consciousness and evolution of and to our world. He strives to assist as many people as he can to actualize and shine those gifts as brightly as they can and the world can handle. Through fitness and strength training John in convinced that once one experiences breaking through the mental limitations physically, the rest of the pieces of an individual will become exponentially stronger, emotionally, professionally, relationally and spiritually. It is his WORK + REST = GROWTH formula that he believes when applied to not only exercise but to life, that humans can fully attain their version of self actualization and hence HIS purpose of self-actualizing others. BioFit is the manifestation of that mission and that purpose.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Honestly, I would not recommend anyone start their business like I did. If anything, I should be a use case for what NOT to do. I thought I had it all together at the time and had it all figured out but because I was incredibly impatient and unwilling to ask for help. I spent a lot more money and a lot more hours of stress than I needed to. Unfortunately, I am a human that must learn all his lessons the hard way and touch the hot stove twice.

Being in the Army for 20 years now, I have learned a lot about myself and the world around me. I know what I’m willing to sacrifice when I believe in a thing deeply enough. I know how to push my mind and my body to the maximum of what it can take and I know, now, when that is necessary and when it just simply is not. Unfortunately, in years 16 and 17, I did not know this. I did not realize how unimportant “being first to market” was going to be. I did not realize how unimportant “using my own money” was and how using the bank’s money would have been so much cheaper. I did not realize how “important” it was to actually have a plan and set benchmarks and goals to help me gauge how well or terrible I was doing. I did realize how “IMPORTANT” it was to understand what money actually is and how it actually works in our world and how others view it in relation to giving it to me to help solve their problems!

I just kept grinding and showing up and doing whatever it took to accomplish the mission, at whatever personal cost to myself, in order to prove that I could make it, on my own, without the damned Army. Fortunately, it worked out and I eventually met mentors and clients that saw my vision and believed in me enough to help and get me to where I am today. The last 5 years have been rough to say the least but the expensive experience I had hopefully will help others not to have to step on the mines I did while traversing the fields of their dreams.

Building a business takes time, focus and vision. It requires Patience! I had made up my mind that failure wasn’t an option and I knew in my soul that what I had to offer would help change the world. I was and still am very convinced that this business, what BioFit offers, IS what I was put here on this planet to do. I did not start this business to make money. I did not start this business to become famous. I did not start this business to retire early. I started it as a way to manifest my vision and my calling to help raise the vibrational consciousness of the planet through the talents and gifts I have developed; health, fitness and coaching. What I didn’t make time for was HOW I was going to do it, I just did it. I recommend not doing it that way and being a little more practical with your approach. I highly recommend having a plan and learning about all the facets of what it takes to be successful in business including finances, taxes, sales, customer service , marketing and most importantly what YOUR role in the business should be. Just be aware there is a difference between being an “entrepreneur” and “solopreneur”. Do you want to run and scale your business or do you just want to work for yourself? Knowing the difference and really getting honest with yourself is, in my estimation, step one.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?

Body by Science by Doug McGuff was the most pivotal book I have ever read when it comes to physical fitness and exercise. It impacted me so much that I got a tattoo of the cover on my arm. It taught me the science of exercise and how the human body actually responds to it. I had been doing what I thought was real exercise for almost 20 years only to learn that my understanding of it was incomplete and I was wasting way too much time and energy. Learning how little volume of the exercise stimulus our bodies need in the form of resistance training was life-changing to me. The intensity with which we DO the exercise is everything.
