We recently connected with Johnse Allende Jr. and have shared our conversation below.
Johnse, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
As I’m still learning, it starts with knowing self. I came up as a dancer and had to trust in my skills that I had what it takes to inspire the world with my movements. Going to Choice Skinner’s Breaking Through Acting Workshop had reinforced and solidified my confidence and self esteem. I was taught in acting class that there’s nothing outside of myself that I would need then just to believe in myself and in my skills, my intelligence and dedication.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’ve been acting since 2011 and I love the fact that you can live life through roles that you would never think to play. Not only it’s special but it’s also exciting because not only you’re living an experience through performance but also the role is expressing their self through our talent. Love this very much. I was able to produce, direct and star in a short film that I created along with my fellow actors and producers. The shoot turned out great. We went back to my homeland to film most of it, Puerto Rico. And the rest in California. A great experience. Hopefully by 2024, it will be viewed by everyone!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Believe in yourself at the hardest times, no one makes it alone. We always need help or guidance to making it. And show gratitude always. Being grateful for whatever experience that comes your way is a blessing.
Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
There’s a few I that has participated in my journey but first I gotta shoutout to Choice Skinner for taking time to groom me into who I am today.
