Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Joi Jamison. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Joi, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
My confidence and self-esteem came from many years of hard work, determination, dedication and affirmation. I will also add to that people pouring into my spirit with positivity and motivation helped tremendously as well. Seeing the true works of my labor come to life has been one of the greatest confidence boosters for me.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am Ms. Joi – Dance Director and Founder of On Pointe Creative Dance Company. I am also a choreographer, coach, mentor, creative, artist and lover of all things arts related. I currently have had my own dance company for three years now. Prior to that I had my own dance team for over 12 years. I have choreographed all over Metro Atlanta and the east coast. Some of my many dance resume highlights include choreographing talent shows, award shows, debutantes, video shoots, sports events, black tie gala’s, competitions, conventions, holiday performances, school productions, professional halftime shows, festivals, etc. I have a sincere love and passion for dance and take the work that I do very seriously. I also enjoy dance consulting and judging. When it comes to my dance company, I am constantly finding ways to continue to elevate us to new levels. I always say we are not your average dance company and what I mean by that is that we pride ourselves on unity, love, diversity, sisterhood, dance technique and performance etiquette. This continues to set us a part from others. On Pointe is a safe haven for girls between the ages of 6 to 17 years old to come feel seen and heard. I want my girls to always know that they matter on and off the dance floor.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The three qualities that were most impactful in my journey would be:
Patience
Faith
Determination
My advice for anyone early in their journey is to not be afraid to ask questions. Center yourself around those that have successful businesses and can give valuable advice from a genuine place. Stay focused. Minimize distractions and have a zero tolerance of negativity from family, friends, associates, etc.
Finally, never ever lose sight of your vision and the goals that you continue to accomplish and always make time to pray and manifest.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Yes, I am most definitely looking to partner and collaborate with others both personally and professionally with my business.
I am interested in collaborating with the following:
Arts Related Entrepreneurs
Dance Directors
Arts Related Non-Profit Organizations
Minority Owned Businesses
Life Coaches
Studio Owners
Artists (Music and Dance)
Marketing Experts
