Meet Jon Stevanovich

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jon Stevanovich a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Jon, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

Optimism comes from thinking about the future and the possibilities in which my business can go. I think it’s fun and that’s what gives it a good positive tune to my business and that I believe in my product and myself to make this a successful business. When I’m not feeling positive or enjoying it, I realize that I need to take a break and try again another day when I’m in the right mood because for this is this is something I wanna make sure I’m enjoying and putting in the right mental effort when it’s appropriate and not make it laborious and not fun.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I do have a full-time job where I am a public servant in the transportation and safety industry and I enjoy being able to work for the taxpayers and providing safe transportation in the public transportation mass transit realm. The business I created is more of a passion idea that I wanted to materialize outside of my working hours with my business background and passion for sports. I was able to bring that together in my husk business well my business is small right now I do see it taking off and being quite a hit at sporting events, festivals, concerts, and more.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Curiosity, determination, and execution. Having a curiosity for creating a product is what sparked this business and having a determination to act upon it and then the execution of doing it and following through on just an idea. So many times people talk of these great ideas or concepts or what if and that is maybe 20% of it. The remaining 80% is turning that key and making that idea or business or reality and it’s really hard. That’s why I think it’s important to connect with others. Take your time but also make sure you have enough passion and interest in this journey that you’re taking because there’ll be very low times to which you’ll need those as a foundation because when there are high times it goes much easier and you barely have to think about it.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?

When I feel overwhelmed, sometimes I just need to take a step back from the business sometimes that could just be a few days or even upwards of a week. I know it’s hard to understand that progress won’t happen while you’re stepping away, but you need to be mentally ready and focused when you’re trying to develop a business or your passion project. Everybody needs a break and if this is something that you want to be long-term, this is such a minor detail in the long game that you won’t even think about that one weekend you had to take off or those two days you took off for personal reasons or we’re busy with other things in life. I also recommend finding a mentor. There are a lot of ways you could find them and it does take some time but having someone to bounce ideas off of or help you get through some slow hurdles throughout will help. Keep your momentum forward and even a small on one session can truly mot you for those next two or three weeks when you hit a low point and refocus your energy.
