We recently connected with Jonaa Darrie and have shared our conversation below.
Jonaa, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
As artists and perfectionists, do we ever overcome imposter syndrome? I know there are many days where I second guess myself and overthink, and then, in the same day someone will fall in love with my brand, and it valadates everything that I am doing and my vision.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
As a twenty year veteran of the beauty, fragrance and fashion industries, I developed a keen eye for luxury and quality. Launched in 2021, the brand combines my passion for travel, art, music and storytelling with years of experience working at Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, and Giorgio Armani. Tosca Honey’s exquisite collection of hand-poured artisanal candles are cruelty free, vegan and ecologically conscious delivering an attractive combination of unique niche fragrances and responsible sourcing. Our candles are hand-poured in small batches in California using a blend of vegan waxes. Our products are never tested on animals and we work with suppliers that share our commitment to ethically-sourced raw materials.Tosca Honey fragrances are composed in Grasse, France.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I grew up in the art world as a dancer. I learned not just the skill of dance and choreography, but also courage and resilience. Learning how to push yourself in the dance world crosses over in daily life and business: this has been very important for me to persevere. Never give up, even when things seem bleak, you can get back up on your feet and try again.
“Courage is the most important of all the virtues because without courage, you can’t practice any other virtue consistently.”
— Maya Angelou
Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
The people you surround yourself with is a reflection of who you are and what you want to strive for. My husband and kids are and have always been amazing supporters of my brand. There are many people who have helped me with this journey, from family to the behind the scenes with the perfumers.
